Rocky (Episode 12) - Rocky’s Heart and Hollywood Drama
0:00
welcome to another episode of one more round the rocky series podcast i am your host and with me today is katie and
0:08
those who are watching this on youtube you're probably seeing an unfamiliar face that's fine but maybe not an unfamiliar voice we have jared jared why
0:16
don't you just say who you are and where you're from and maybe uh what what you've done with me so the listeners might know this here well my name is
0:23
jared tockstein i host uh my own show with my buddies the
0:28
hyperspace podcasting of the 25th century uh you may have heard me on this podcast network with ryan
0:36
on the world's foremost burt reynolds podcast where we've talked about two of burt
0:42
reynolds uh late 80s classics pete and malone sorry i don't know why this is true
0:50
those are all true words i mean those are all true words
0:55
yes we recorded we recorded uh malone which at the time this recording has not i haven't even
1:01
but i think that's going to be a is that a spoiler no no no it's a tease not a spoiler
1:07
we want to tease our audience that come september that episode will be out the episode of malone will be out and i just
1:13
want to say as a tease i freaking loved that film i just thought it was so much fun to watch and fun to talk about it
1:19
was at the end of that episode that you and i discussed that wow i think we're just got to do another bert rounds film which
1:26
then leads us to discuss yeah we're like this weird sub burt reynolds podcast within the podcast
1:31
within the podcast it's very meta this network is becoming insane
1:36
a lot of like heard of that movie before oh neither have i oh okay there's probably a probably a
1:43
good reason okay how dare you can i just say jared you have the most
1:50
spectacular like radio podcast voice ever i know oh well that's very kind
1:56
thank you i'm blushing a little bit i know i love his gray hair it's amazing i love it i love his koi look at that full
2:02
set of hair and it's just a silver silver fox he looks amazing yeah my wife loves it yeah i want to say
2:09
this too i was going to say this jared uh we won't blow too much smoke up your butt but yes you have a great voice great face jared's the type of guy that
2:15
i've done a few episodes with now and he also guessed it on it's a long road the ramble series podcast yeah so he's done
2:22
that as well so if you're a rambo fan and you haven't checked on my other podcast called it's a long road the ramble series pockets jared was one of
2:28
the guest hosts on one of those episodes of the first season and he definitely will be coming back whether it's the second third or fourth like i actually
2:35
got more guest hosts than i thought i was gonna get so not everyone's gonna repeat every season so that's just fyi
2:41
anyone listens to both shows so not much has happened in the sly world as far as more instagram stuff at
2:48
the time this recording for episode 11 for those that are tracking because this episode only comes out every two weeks
2:53
and sometimes we record quicker than i release just what i record when i have time so sometimes the news that people
2:59
are hearing when they're hearing this on their earbuds or watching on youtube isn't always up to date so i just want
3:04
to say that regarding my deep throat i i did talk about it a little bit at the beginning of episode 11 i did a quick
3:10
live interjection as i was editing just before i released it was like just before i released that episode
3:15
i came on camera and voice and just said hey this is who my deep throat was because i almost got into a literal
3:22
youtube war with a very accomplished youtuber called viking samurai because one of our listeners in fact
3:28
whatever i can say who it was hector connaught so our favorite wrestler he hit me up like 11 o'clock at night just
3:33
before i was like about to fall asleep saying oh man i just saw this viking samurai video and it's already got 6 000
3:40
views he literally said the same things you said ryan so that's how all that happened so then i went to the video and
3:46
i couldn't believe it the two things that were brought up were the bill chartoff the son of
3:52
robert chardov was that you know he's a sly supporter but erwin winkler is overall right so
3:58
that was one thing the other thing was um the suns irwin winkler sons following sly around the rocky balboa set tally
4:05
sly you can't say they're you know trying to influence slide to whatever i don't know why they wouldn't want to make a bad product because it's still a
4:12
film they're producing so all that being said viking samurai brought up those very things you can't google that stuff
4:17
so at that moment i thought to myself oh my gosh he watched my video that has like a hundred views nobody watches me
4:24
this guy's ripped off what i thought was like sweet intel or
4:29
unique intel just to me ryan i thought he'd rip me off guy literally wrote on his youtube page hey dude
4:35
thanks for ripping me off you could at least give me credit because he also ended that video by saying wait till you see my next video where i give you more
4:40
intel cree 3 which again on my video i talked about how in crete 3 there's a story line within the creed
4:47
3 film as of right now about rape or sexual assault in that film that it's dark and that
4:52
michael b jordan's hit up slide please save my film and slide said no so that's big news i thought when i really said
4:58
one of my episodes so anyways so i thought again oh my this guy ripped me off and i set up like a nasty gram on his youtube channel i went
5:05
to bed could hardly sleep then i woke up the next day and i got to be very careful here i don't say any names so there's a few people that i
5:11
have in my peripheral online life that i can talk to about certain things in the rocky world so i sent a message to an
5:18
individual and i won't even say if this individual was or was in the deep throat that's i got to be careful so this individual was
5:24
like no no no there's more than one person giving this information to other creators
5:30
and i'm like you gotta be kidding me so i quickly deleted that quickly deleted my thing i put on my facebook page on
5:36
our page our podcast facebook page where i felt hurt then i felt stupid and then i talked to
5:41
another friend and he also has a close connection to sly i expressed to him how stupid i felt and
5:48
all the stuff he goes no you know how would you know blah blah blah so that was the journey that ryan went through uh i went from feeling pretty like
5:55
spa look i'm not gonna say that this person who gave me the information like i shouldn't feel special i just
6:01
felt uniquely special that i was receiving information that i thought at the time nobody else
6:06
was receiving but it turns out other creators were getting the same information so again the information i
6:11
was given was correct the information i was given sly has kind of like unofficially authorized for leaks to
6:17
happen about his feelings on the matter good let me put it on instagram but also regarding the cree 3 storyline that he's
6:23
been asked to edit those kind of leaks i think have been authorized that's why various creators are giving the same information because
6:30
it just helps the sly army a little bit but i felt the lo i was a used but i felt not as special because i was like
6:35
oh i'm just one of the other anyways i say that just because that's the journey i went through i don't know
6:41
what are you guys thoughts on all that when i saw the um the video that you posted
6:47
initially i thought man ryan's got a legit exclusive here yeah
6:54
a legit scoop uh so it's kind of disappointing to to find out that this is sort of
7:00
i guess i don't know is is is this person leaking to a pool of people
7:05
to to try to get it out there you know i think i think he or she uh leaked it out
7:12
yeah i think people that he he still trusted and liked and thought would give it a good
7:17
representation to the information they were given i like viking samurai's legit good podcast and or youtube channel
7:23
creator obviously a bigger following than i would ever have so the information again is correct but
7:28
yeah i just didn't realize that i was just i would say one of many but one of a handful yeah
7:34
another bum from the neighborhood is all i was gonna say you're just another round from the neighborhood oh i know yeah back to hammond ager
7:41
hammond eager status restored and i guess i i wouldn't have it any other way
7:46
oh boy okay well um let's get into it dud katie you've got an email i
7:53
do hi there uh omrp i just found your podcast which is exciting as the level of rocky deep
8:00
diving is pretty extraordinary thanks for all the content to date much appreciated and much to trawl through
8:06
i was just on one of your live discords which was fun hopefully we'll be there again when you record live this is not
8:12
really a question or discussion point but thought i'd share thought i would share as about the cinematography of the
8:17
first film i directed and produced a feature film wow which came out earlier this year and the
8:24
cinematography was really inspired by the visuals of cinematographer james craig's work on rocky and garrett
8:31
brown's steadicam work and john g appleton's direction too
8:36
although my story is nothing like rocky it's more of a low-key british mystery drama chick flick with no boxing or
8:43
stumble bum dialogue yet the steadicam walking and talking scenes like that of little marie ice
8:48
skating etc was very inspiring to the visual style of my film the crucial
8:54
scene of rocky on the on the bed talking about going the distance possibly the most important scene in the film
8:59
question mark was very inspiring to me from a plot point of view in relation to my film i wrote slash added a scene in
9:07
reshoots after i shot the whole film as preview audiences felt my lead character needed a little bit more clarification
9:13
as to her motivations like that rocky saying she's even sat on a bed having a crisis of confidence in
9:19
my scene too rip off it really helped the film and for an
9:24
audience to understand where she's coming from more imagine if that scene in rocky hadn't been there
9:30
as they were close to not filming it flicking the lights off it would have made the ending much less exp inspiring
9:37
and defeat the point of the film as he'd still be a loser whereas the scene of him clearly stating his intention to the
9:43
audiences makes his loss not a loss and grounds the audience to know that's actually the point of the film
9:50
i'm not hawking my film or anything or comparing my zero budget drama to the oscar winning classic film but thought
9:57
i'd give you an insight into some of the creative process and how the film inspired me kind regards simon drake wow
10:04
we have some like super talented listeners well his film could be crappy so i wouldn't give him too much credit
10:11
that's awesome simon thank you thank you for sharing yeah that's amazing i agree i totally agree with you that we have a
10:17
legit filmmaker so what i love about cyber because i'm not trying to hawk my film well you you didn't simon you did a
10:22
horrible job hocking your film because you didn't even say what filming was so i had yeah what is it yeah i had to do my own research i had to like imdb this
10:29
guy and figure hopefully with the clues that he gave that it's a british film it's some crime and it's a chick flick
10:35
crime drama or whatever so the one thing i got was a simon drake film directed in 2022 and released in 2022 i should say
10:42
is a film called lost angel that fits his description so but the uh synopsis here is
10:48
news of a death sparks a young woman's quest for justice so that sounds like what he'd expect yeah would express
10:53
there so good for him this is one of his two films he's directed directed another one in uh
10:59
2018 called the angel on the ceiling another feature film two feature films to his
11:04
credits so good for him so you might be an up and coming director i don't know how it is you could be 20 or 70. i don't know so thank you simon for
11:11
those awesome thoughts and i always love hearing from people we haven't got a lot of emails lately we're speaking about
11:16
hector kuznellis what our favorite wrestler used to email us all the time i wondered did he like did he stop listening to our show and i was right he
11:22
did not because he doesn't like her show but he the way he operates he can only focus on
11:28
one thing at a time is what he said it's weird that way so he's going to binge us very soon but he has stuff going on in
11:33
his life where he he didn't want to listen to us because he wouldn't enjoy it the way he would like to enjoy things so he's going
11:39
to binge us so hector is still aware of our show obviously because he emailed me about that viking samurai but anyways i
11:44
just wanted to give a shout out to hector that when he gets to this episode we love you brother and we hope you're well okay remember my last episode or sorry
11:51
my my remember on our our last episode where i mentioned that sly liked my instagram
11:56
post and then i but then they went back to the hammer and eager status where
12:02
he likes arbitrary he likes everything and or he seems to like things that contradict his very mess like
12:08
specifically he's griping about earl and weakly people are like team irwin in his comments and there's a like by
12:15
stallone's account they're just like seemingly random yeah seemingly random at the very
12:20
contradict yeah they contradict each other well one of our listeners gino he's a listener of our channel he
12:26
actually watches the youtube versions of these channels so that's kind of cool we do have a few now that actually go to the youtube video only that's how they
12:31
watch our show so we'd like to thank those guys so gino's one of them watches out on youtube he said that i'm in a
12:36
rocky collector's group on facebook i think i've seen that group it doesn't really interest me memorabilia stuff doesn't really interest me but however
12:42
there's a rocky collector's group on facebook and someone posted their like from sly so they've gotten a
12:48
like from sly they felt really great and on the comments there were people explaining that it was all automated and
12:54
it kind of hurt the guy's feelings he goes yeah and i imagine it's just a setting in instagram that people with
13:00
large followings like these verified check mark people that they can use so they don't have to actually physically
13:05
like hundreds of comments or pain somebody or signing somebody else to do it so it's an automated
13:10
system so that's why often these like comments do seem to happen at the beginning of a post from celebrities they might
13:17
have a setting where it's like like every comment for the first 90 seconds two minutes depends on your following
13:22
right because you get a lot of comments can pour in so people on the facebook group mention that it's probably automated gino says it's automated he
13:30
says there's and i agree there's no chance that sly himself is physically liking comments i would say he does
13:36
comment on some comments so people like from people that are his friends or trusted sources he will like those and every now
13:43
and then there will be someone's comment who's a little peon like us that he will comment so i think he obviously if he
13:48
physically comments on a question or something that's him against near the beginning of the post
13:53
but the automated comment whatever that is or however that's done it makes sense so people on facebook said the same
13:59
thing unrelated to our show to another person and that makes sense because why would he like my thing and then like
14:05
somebody was supporting early winkler's cause not to rain on your parade i've had a like comment by sly on his
14:11
instagram as well i was asking him a question about the director's cut of rocky 4 and i asked him a question but
14:18
he didn't answer it but he just liked it sure i like your question brother yeah
14:25
great question okay yeah i don't love that that setting even exists it defeats the purpose of the whole purpose of
14:31
these platforms is for people to engage and it's it's just like vanity engagement then i
14:37
don't know i just don't like that i don't think i'll ever be popular but there's a i think i think it listens to
14:42
the show for sure but on our twitter handle the one more around twitter there's a guy named joey and he actually
14:49
said to me goes i just want to thank you for always answering my dms he'll ask questions about sly or the show or something i'll
14:55
always personally answer now of course it comes to the point let's say we were hugely popular i wouldn't be able to i
15:01
wouldn't have the time to answer that same racial but he actually says he appreciates that i think i would like to
15:06
always kind of be that person no matter how big we ever got where we could interact with people and say
15:11
hey you know we're just ham and eggers we're all hammond acres right at the end of the day and i don't like it when people forget that so
15:18
uh donald uh said here in our chat on our discord chat he goes uh i appreciate him saying this he goes uh
15:24
you're still one of a handful of people to hear it first ryan sly is still reeling as far as damage control goes so
15:30
that's nice i appreciate that luis says it's a bs system but you always go the distance in our hearts
15:36
ryan oh thanks louise okay and then donald says to you katie well said katie what's the point of a
15:42
verified account if bots are doing everything yeah silliness i'll tell you
15:48
before we get into today's episode i want you guys to remind me to say something about yes i was about to remind you i jared i
15:55
actually have no doubt about that i just happen to remember uh i have a little bit of scatterbrain katie knows this
16:00
welcome jared you listen to this oh actually i want to say this is i'm a little bit i don't know why i'm nervous but jared jared actually listens to the
16:06
show katie you've read his emails on our show this is amazing he's guesting i just i don't know why i feel nice i know
16:11
he's like the legit podcaster well yeah you know right i gotta say last week
16:17
when mr jurgens contacted me he said would you be interested in co-hosting
16:23
the podcast with katie and ryan and i sat there for a minute and i
16:28
thought about it and i was like no no those those guys are the best i'm just a
16:34
ham [ __ ] wouldn't be a very good show oh my god jared do you believe that
16:40
america and canada is the land of opportunity and i said yeah i think so
16:46
and i thought about it and you know here i am i decided to take the shot oh we appreciate it yeah
16:53
we so we fired kyle again i think this is his fifth firing from the show i think we've let him go out how many times we've been like oh you know
17:00
you know he's been here since yeah like going the distance like episode five he guessed it
17:05
it's not weird uh he's not able to be here today he's actually recording i think today with seco is what happened he's he's doing a chronicles
17:12
okay he's nervous because uh oh it's karate that's right i keep forgetting because kyle does karate
17:18
right like he actually so wow yeah jared yes he does yeah are you what do you got you're gonna
17:24
play for kyle's trivia your tally system will go to him so katie you write down the score
17:30
okay and we'll give those numbers to kyle afterwards and then he'll tell you okay so again if you're in our discord
17:36
we'd like to welcome everyone to discord no answers in discord play at home okay if you want to join our discu come to
17:42
the show notes join our discord you can watch this stuff live and check all the stuff that ryan you know here's for example
17:48
our last recording was an hour and a half long they me you kyle did katie and the episode was in
17:54
hour 12. so i cut out 18 minutes of well some of um's and oz and us stepping
18:00
on each other whatever to make it a smooth show but there's stuff that i cut out where like i don't know if i want other people to
18:05
hear that so discord people do get some legit raw feelings or emotions i've cut out i
18:12
would say arguments that we've had sometimes but some some things i've cut out where it's like it's hard to explain it's it because
18:18
when you listen to it again when you're out of the moment you think okay the listener might not want to hear that discussion but the people discord get to
18:23
hear stuff that the itunes listeners don't well i got a question so what am i supposed to do if i'm not you write down
18:29
the answer that's it it's already just do you not listen i thought you listened to a show jared do you not listen i do
18:34
i do okay so i'm sorry in our discord in their discord right now we have rocco
18:40
who was 12 years old when you wrote this book that's amazing yeah it's awesome some of the questions do read like a 12
18:45
year old no i'm i love you rocco okay so oh man ryan's on one today
18:52
in brief this episode's gonna be like eight minutes long with all the offensive things you cut out of it right yeah
19:00
it's kyle that usually rags on rocco poor rocco we love rocco he's a great supporter of the show we love him okay
19:05
question 26 what is the name of the ring announcer so i would assume the end the end of ring announcer name
19:11
so what is the name of the ring announcer i assume it's the final fight okay question 27 what animal cages does
19:19
adrian have to clean in the basement the pet store gloria says hey go down and clean the blank 28
19:25
true or false adrian is the owner of the pet store 29 what year did rocky win an academy award
19:33
question 30 who says don't leave town i'm feeling pretty confident about those except for
19:38
the first one i'm not gonna lie to you i think i might even have the first one i don't know i think you're over complicating that first one
19:46
that's just my opinion the name of the ring announcer do we don't say it now do we no no we
19:52
wait i have my answer and i don't know if that's what you guys are referring to am i overthinking it i could be
19:57
oh so rocco says he was almost 10 when he wrote he was he was 10 when he wrote this book oh my god wow and is he going
20:03
into college next year no he's like doogie how's there this friend i know yeah well good job ryan
20:09
rocco we appreciate your support of our show and everything and his father ian king is his father he's been listening
20:15
to go in the distance since the beginning so put this way i started podcasting when rocco was six years old how's that for a little bit of trivia
20:21
then you put that in your next book there rocco how old was i when ryan started poc podcasting about rocky all right so i
20:28
think that's everything that's all the business so let's get into the film so we're at the part here where jurgen
20:33
has offered the opportunity to fight apollo on the main stage but jared do you want to speak to this moment though
20:39
before we move on like what are your feelings on this moment the film i think you guys said it well in the last episode i think
20:45
we know that we want to hear some un sound thoughts from you about that
20:50
oh man i think it's very well played and pretty realistic because if you
20:57
as a regular person are put in that situation i think initially your reaction is going to be
21:02
to just step away from it no no no i can't this is too much if somebody offered you in your you know
21:09
in your career some gigantic promotion that maybe you don't feel that
21:15
you've earned of course you're gonna sit there and be like uh yeah i don't think i'm ready for
21:20
that rock he's talking about getting into the ring with the heavyweight champion of the world i mean he says it
21:26
he's like no that's not gonna be a good fight he's the best and i suck yeah i really like this scene because i think
21:32
it plays like it really would in real life totally agree
21:37
he had every right to say no and i think maybe sometimes his moviegoers are thinking why would he say no i don't get it but if you think about
21:44
it this is his profession i'm a boxer and you're like i think well kyle said it best like i jog i casually jog i just
21:51
do to keep fit i like i love running i like to listen to my music or podcast when i'm jogging i take my dot and it
21:56
takes my dog as well so it's get gets her exercises as well if they say well ryan we know you we've heard you're a
22:02
good jogger the olympic team has seen you jog they like how you jog we want you to represent the
22:07
what are you are you insane if i represented canada it'd be embarrassing i'd be so far behind
22:12
i wouldn't want to be embarrassed for my like just me so rocky's feeling lazy this is and actually
22:18
just skip ahead a little bit to the end he knows it even at the very end because i can't beat him i don't get too much in that scene it's probably the best scene
22:24
in the film but you know when he says i can't beat him the night before he's right this is insane that i'm doing this
22:30
and which brings us back to here so i think we know at this point in time it is a big opportunity and i'm sure jurgen
22:36
twisted his arm but the big thing was the payday it's 150 000 in 1976 would
22:42
anyone a discord can you just do inflation calculator sorry for us 150 000 u.s 1976 what it is today this will give
22:50
us an indication of what you or i would have been offered so that's thing maybe somebody came to me with like let's say three hundred thousand dollars that
22:56
changes your life and that's part of the scene we don't see is jurgens making him that offer they
23:02
sort of cut it early but you also gotta think at this point it's after thanksgiving he wants to box on new
23:08
year's day that's seven weeks tops to get in shape for
23:13
a heavyweight championship nothing man nothing they're afraid of me they know they don't have a chance to watch me in
23:19
front of the world yeah but you're right it doesn't have a lot of time it was smart not to show
23:25
that discussion about the finances what have you one because it might not have been very engaging for an audience but because the next thing we're about to
23:30
get into reveals the amount so we as an audience hear the amount with paulie that becomes a pivotal here so let's
23:36
check a little bit out okay so we cut to paulie and adrian's townhouse for our
23:41
listeners we've got rocking agency on the couch you got rocky cutting an apple with a knife you've got age with a little cup of tea
23:48
what i love already is now that adrian's flower's been popped oh yeah the date yeah you said you had something to say
23:54
about the date scene okay we talked about this ad nauseam i went back to the source you say well who's the source
24:00
ryan well the man sly himself okay so yes i went to the director's commentary yes yes yes but i had to i had to hear
24:06
what sly the author of the film and the characters the man behind the thought
24:11
process of what was going on here and i also wanted to hear if he was going to mention anything about trapping adrian
24:18
with his hands he didn't of course what he did with that moment was he complimented talia shires incredible
24:25
acting he just mentioned that at this moment tulia shire was just amazing the way she was shy the way she all those
24:31
things go backwards though he said at the beginning because we asked the question i think kyle asked the question what was it like to be a person who
24:37
dated in those days remember well duh sly sly would know what it was like he
24:43
was that age he dated in that time so he would know what it was like to date in the 70s
24:48
because he was 29 years old when he writes this thing so of course he knows what it was like to date back then and what life was like in the 70s what the
24:55
expectations were between male 1 all those things why don't we go back and hear what the man himself has to say
25:01
about all the things we talked about okay hey you want to come inside this is one of my favorite scenes i
25:07
wasn't aware but again at the time but the way he's hanging from the door like like an animal just
25:13
just embracing this house and there he is beckoning to this poor girl to come into this
25:20
strange foreboding situation he's just trying to charm her and there's a i don't know is
25:27
a i guess a a real child like a quality about the kid ooh
25:32
okay again she's at the crossroads any woman to walk into that place with that guy at that time
25:39
has to be pretty much enamored with them natalia was great in this scene too she is uh you can see that she doesn't want
25:45
to go an inch more than she has to she walked in that boy the charm from outside just
25:50
disappeared she's in a hell hole rocky's putting his hat on him on a bayonet
25:55
his jacket on a machete and in two seconds he's down to his tank top i go for some music
26:02
flips on the records romantic music and they're not there for 12 seconds but his
26:07
child like side kicks in with first thing he talks about her like not a drink or anything look at my turtles her
26:13
body language oh she's just standing there like a mobile a little old woman it's just paralyzed
26:19
the couch is something that i think would need a polio shot couch is
26:24
diseased beer bottle stuck into whatever you guys come on over it's a nice couch
26:29
even she has to like almost laugh at this it's like come on really uh gotta get out of here
26:35
slowly she's being somewhat lured into she loves the guy
26:42
johnny man has ever given her any attention so but she's she needs one more just one more
26:49
moment another another hook to pull her in she's she's being torn in
26:54
two directions and this is her old sensibilities this is her guilt this is a catholic
26:59
upbringing saying i gotta get out of here because i this goes against everything
27:05
that i've been brainwashed into believing in rocky's just having none of it he knows if she leaves for him it's
27:11
like it's over it's a it's a crushing defeat for any chance of them falling in love he
27:18
probably hasn't had a girl up there maybe ever everybody says all these all men's apartments are the same like i've
27:24
never been a man's apartment before so he doesn't he's doing anything saying anything that
27:30
just doesn't want to be abandoned see this is this i think is really great
27:35
very honest he's not comfortable either she's not comfortable but let's make the best of an uncomfortable situation
27:41
don't go please this is maybe the best acting in the movie talia
27:46
shire is just goes through 50 emotions without leaving that spot if anybody ever wants to
27:52
really study acting just check her out in this scene the longing the desire the fear the
27:59
anticipation has never been kissed great just a nuance
28:05
there you go so all the things we brought up are true she was totally enamored by rocky she wanted to be with
28:10
him physically but her hesitation had nothing to do with her physical safety it was a religious upbringing and
28:16
whatever sly actually says in the commentary of being brainwashed so at that time at least when he did the
28:22
commentary he mentioned brainwashing because of religion interesting so i think he's a spiritual
28:28
person i just don't think he's a religious person yeah yeah that doesn't surprise me
28:33
she's enamored by rocky she wants to be there they're both there oh you also mentioned that by rocky's saying well i don't feel
28:40
so great too or i'm nervous too that was him showing his vulnerability they're both just equally as nervous yes
28:46
rocky's not a virgin she is oh he also mentioned that was her first kiss that was her that's the first time she's
28:52
ever kissed anyone oh we kind of assumed that but that's good confirmation
28:57
when paulie brings up that she's not a virgin that is insight into his
29:02
character because he knows that probably bugs her that's something he can use against her like hey you know you're not
29:09
a virgin because he knows saying that's going to cut her and you know because this is why paulie's not a virgin's
29:14
because he's either paid for it or that or of course or the person that he's been with is an absolute beast
29:20
beast yeah right now check this out okay here we go so donald looked up the math for
29:26
us 150 us dollars today would be worth 780 000
29:32
wow change your life for one fight that's a lot of money so if somebody said ryan
29:37
i'll give you 780 000 u.s u.s dollars for me which would be close to almost a million canadian
29:42
dollars to uh run it for canada do one race represent canada for one race and you're gonna
29:48
look like an idiot and that'll be okay now we're talking see now i'm thinking now i'm reassessing the deal absolutely
29:54
of course i mean maybe i'll train a little bit harder i've got seven weeks to get a little bit better shape but yeah for a million bucks that would help
30:00
my family out a lot okay so i want to get all the information out so i think that's good yeah the author himself said
30:06
adrian wanted to be there so enough with this uh entrapment crap yeah okay and it was religion and he says she was
30:11
brainwashed so rocky snapped her out of it because when you see this next scene i want to bring all that up because when you see adrius is bubbly and she's so
30:19
you know i am totally a different agent you'll notice how confident she is and just how she stands up to paulie we'll
30:25
get to that okay here we go uh paul is here with rocky and rocky's wearing his uh his only nice sweater at this press
30:32
conference they're at this little podium here it's on tv and they're all watching this tv
30:37
coverage right now rocky's done this earlier in the day so they're now watching the the broadcast on tv later
30:42
in the evening so rocky's gathered everyone around hey guys going to see me on tv and paul says all right fellas that's enough pictures so now here we go
30:49
we want to ask apollo a few questions apollo how do you like the city of brotherly love well just being in
30:55
philadelphia makes me feel patriotic beautiful people in a beautiful city coming up to me on the street wishing me
31:00
the best i love my philadelphia brothers and i'm proud to be an american apollo champion
31:06
why did you agree to fight a man who has virtually no chance of winning look if history proves one thing american
31:12
history proves that everybody's got a chance to win didn't you guys ever hear valley forward your bunker hill boy carl
31:19
weathers i mean his ability just the reporters are asking very good questions they're saying why are you
31:24
fighting somebody who let me look at this guy he's shorter than you he's obviously not a professional like you are in the same kind of like his record
31:31
i'm sure the record's probably public now is his boxing record it's not very good why are you fighting somebody that has virtually no chance of beating you like
31:37
why are you doing this all right you're going to humiliate this guy why are you doing this but i love how he doesn't understand
31:43
rocky he's like hey anyone has a chance to win and that's what i love about apollo he's always been
31:48
he's he's promoting himself yes he doesn't want but at the same time he's not saying yeah i'll destroy him i'll
31:53
destroy him not to the public you know he knows he can he said it to his people but just the public he's selling the
31:58
fight he's a businessman and carl he's just a dang movie star yes that's a
32:04
good way of putting it he really does have that career yeah he's amazing
32:10
heard of valley forge or bunker hill i didn't google it i almost did but what are those you know what they are they're battles
32:15
in a revolutionary war i think i figured they were bad sorry american history ryan yeah yeah sorry as a canadian i
32:22
apologize i know i figured they were probably will you say civil war were they or uh revolutionary oh
32:29
revolutionary okay do you guys recall what the victory was or were these like against the odds type victories or well
32:34
i know at valley forge it was uh washington was drastically outnumbered by the british and they won bunker hill
32:43
listen i i was told there would be no math i don't know yeah these are hard questions but yeah i
32:49
would have i i honestly don't recall either but i would imagine just based on the context that yeah it was sort of
32:55
like a david and goliath type situation but yeah first of all i'm glad you brought the sweater up because i
33:00
[ __ ] love his sweater and i love how these are just like such little details
33:06
the way he's eating the apple with the knife who'd have thought that's just like such a mundane but normal thing like i would
33:12
never i never just bite into an apple ever really yeah oh it creeps me out to
33:18
like have bite and no i have to cut it too oh wow my kids are the same way katie you're like my
33:23
children oh yeah i just get in there i just go for it
33:28
jared just likes to put his mouth on it right away no prep work we still thought about apples
33:36
yeah it is a coincidence that you're fighting a white man on the most celebrated day in the country's history
33:42
i love his response but what is that question what is the meaning of that question i don't i know it's the 70s
33:48
granted but what is the meaning of that question about fighting a white man against this american history that i'm
33:53
not aware of i know that would never be asked today but in the 70s goes is you know why are you fighting a white man on the most celebrated is it the most
33:59
celebrated day in the history because it was that year your country becomes 100 what was it 150 or something or 200 200
34:06
the bicentennial okay and i think that you guys even maybe discussed this um going in the distance
34:12
it's unusual because it's what is the most celebrated would be july 4th yes not january first so that's
34:20
always been a little weird and honestly i don't know the black white thing i don't know what that has to do with it
34:26
because black white fighters happen i mean little chuck weapon ali was happened before so i i'm confused why
34:32
this reporter was probably fired after this conference probably like why would you do this why would you bring up
34:37
do you find the sort of the blocking of this scene weird where the reporters are like
34:42
two inches of everybody's just clumped they're not like sitting in an audience
34:47
or anything they're just right there next to them it's budget it's all budget it is they made it crowded it seemed
34:53
like it was crowded best thing there's nobody outside that shop but i think we're led to believe that it's just a crowd of people this is a huge like
35:00
rocky three and four i started the rocky two and and four conferences we had all these reporters in the rose you had this
35:06
big setup they can't afford to have the set behind the podium or in
35:12
front of the podiums we had to put the reporters right with the actors it is absolutely ridiculous they had no budget
35:18
yeah well to your point jared too they're blocking rocky he's behind these guys mm-hmm that might
35:24
be intentional the idea that he's enough i thought yeah for sure because see this report is right it's just it is kind of
35:30
where they're right their faces asking these questions this is what you would have after a fight with everyone in the
35:35
ring rocky says something at the end of the film rocky or slice is the best line in the rocky films that i don't know how
35:41
many people catch it so here's my trivia question might not be in the book what does rocky say to one of the reporters
35:47
when he's calling for adrian specifically about the mics so they were like hey get this out of my face or something
35:53
yeah yeah i don't know exact quote but he says i've had enough things in my face today
35:58
i love that line he's he's so mad the people he's got the mics in his face he's like
36:03
things on my face today he has had enough things hidden in his face for the day that's such a subtle little moment
36:08
as he's calling alfred i just love louise has a couple comments here valley forge was the rough winter camp for the
36:14
americans where the endured starvation terrible weather okay bunker hill was the first real
36:20
battle of the american revolution the brits thought they would just run through the americans but ended up with a very hard-fought victory that set the
36:27
tone for the american resolve throughout the war there you go wow well thank you for bringing some knowledge to the
36:33
podcast thank you louise thank you louise and donald says that maybe it refers to the rise of black people in
36:39
the 70s regarding the uh um yeah the black on one yeah so that guy was a racist essentially that's what yeah
36:46
[Laughter] but then i love apollo's comeback great comeback i don't know about that is it a
36:52
coincidence that he's fighting a black man on the most celebrated day in the country's history right now
36:59
right there look at that right oh tell the truth brother you guys ever catch that before no no i don't think i did
37:06
i'm too busy looking at rocky and adrian's interaction and that's just it that's what i love about the captions i
37:12
always recommend if you're a movie fan of whatever movie it is and you haven't seen that movie with captions on but you've seen it a million times whatever
37:18
whether it's i don't know friday the 13th or whatever the film you think you know watch it with the official captions from
37:24
the film from the dvd or from netflix or whatever you'll be surprised at how much subtleties you've missed because you're
37:30
watching rocky and adrian at that response and then laughing so you've missed the dialogue of
37:35
basically it's apollo's people saying write on apollo tell the truth brother obviously that's it's probably not the
37:40
white reporter it's probably apollo's people look at this the frame that you paused on
37:47
look how she's looking at him he's very excited she's just kind of giving him a glance
37:54
to see how he's he's reacting to this stuff i think that's a great little freeze frame it is wonderful i agree
38:01
look at her shirt there's kind of buttoned down a little bit closer to cleavage she's just well they may probably make it out on the couch before
38:07
they started watching that's true she took over 19 sweaters yeah i mean like they just share these
38:13
little glances without saying anything and it's she's so proud to like have she's like i got a man
38:20
i got a man and he's also going to be like kind of famous and take her credit she uh she banged
38:26
rocky before he got this big deal so you can't see that she chased rocky she locked him in yeah yeah that's true
38:32
louise here said that busted women are frisky what women are frisky busted busted oh
38:41
come on ryan do it you do it you do it every episode yeah right now adrian's definitely
38:51
i wonder how many people caught that that's what he says paulie says i can't haul me anymore you don't make that out
38:56
without the captain it's like i
39:02
[Music] what does the hauling meat have to do with anything i have no idea but apparently adrian's virginity is somehow
39:09
tied to paulie's ability to haul meat i don't i'm not sure
39:15
look this movie's flawless but it doesn't always make sense i'm sorry yeah
39:21
we should also say to listeners of course we've got paulie drinking beer and he's just squished a can too by the way so this is probably not his first
39:27
beer and he's just like slouched right down in history he's just looking like
39:33
he's just so miserable about this whole experience his sister is busted rocky's got this great opportunity he's still
39:39
working at the meat plant he can't help me no more he knows that he hasn't announced it to the crowd but he knows it already he can't hold me no more so
39:46
that's why it will come up when he's like you need any help with anything here we go so tell me how do you feel about your
39:52
challenges how do i feel about it yeah what do you mean come here rock so he's bringing him to the front front come here ruxin brings now he brings rocky
39:58
forward my main man he says my main man i love this got his arm around rocky and man
40:04
rocky ain't you italian yeah well now what does that mean that means if he can't fight i bet he
40:11
can cook all right could that be said today and i'm wondering i don't mean that as a i don't
40:16
get to the whole woke stuff but is that an insult to say that italians could cook or is that a bad thing i don't even know it's it's a steroid
40:23
it's a stereotype it's not a negative stereotype but it adds nothing in my opinion like it's like a neutral thing
40:29
in my opinion oh i just recalled that it wasn't necessarily black white but the heritage
40:35
is brought up apollo particularly wanted to fight the man who discovered america is italian is so if i get it on with one
40:42
of his descendants or whatever so it's really more like the heritage is the play not black and white so i don't know
40:47
why the reporter but it was italian italian was important yeah and some italians don't consider
40:54
themselves necessarily the white the way maybe i would i listen to a guy who podcasts he's italian and he actually
40:59
said that like he doesn't think of himself as quote unquote as a caucasian michael imperioli said that too who uh
41:05
was christopher and the sopranos oh right of course says that he like you know when you have to check a box he puts other oh okay oh
41:12
wow okay here we go so here's uh here's paulie and now he's looking at the screens kind of smiling he's got a
41:17
couple beers in them so there's our first indication with
41:23
paulie's hatred of apollo right there do me a favor his lungs punch out why does polly talk like yoda
41:30
yeah exactly his lungs punch out
41:35
just it's such a weird way of saying that i've always found that strange that he
41:40
phrases it that way well it's the rockyisms like we talked about it before no well slyisms because sly wrote the
41:47
dialogue for paulie but it's weird that's why i wrote it that way because he also wrote it for him like what do
41:52
you mean what do you mean opposite remember he talked about that first like what do you mean what do you mean opposite like what that's not how you
41:58
say that but we know what he meant but sly wrote that way for this film and for the further films of course where it is
42:04
that weird is that that can't be a philly thing there's no way that's how philadelphians talk but do me a favor as
42:10
long as pancho you would say do me a favor and knock his teeth out or do me a favor
42:15
kill him donald brings up a good point here positive stereotypes are still harmful but once the last time you got
42:21
punched for being called a good cook so yeah good point but that's true that's true yeah i couldn't quite put my finger
42:26
on how i wanted to word it but he's right i think harmful in that it still perpetuates that stereotypes exist so it
42:33
still reinforces the stereotype because every stereotype will end up being a bad stereotype i guess like i feel like i
42:39
was italian in a prior life and i would love to be italian i'm not i wish
42:44
i were but i'm i'm not so that i'm like oh well that's i always identify as one
42:49
yeah all right
42:55
well rocky how do you expect to fight apollo creed oh geez you know creed's the best uh i
43:01
guess i'll have to do the best i can that's awesome uh you know creed is the best i guess i'll do the best i can well
43:07
yeah that's probably the the best approach you can do in this situation gee thanks for helping us sell tickets
43:13
rocky yeah like he's you know he's just like watch this guy here so this guy's gonna
43:18
ask him how did you come up with the name he looks at the camera and again these reporters are treating rocky like
43:23
an idiot which i don't like which will come into play later watch the report looks at the camera like tell me rocky
43:29
just between us and he looks at the camera i guess we get it uh here we go you'll see tell me rocky
43:35
just between us where did you get the name italian style oh
43:41
uh i invented that uh about eight years ago when i was eating dinner rocky now your payday i invented that about eight
43:47
years ago i love how he says is he invented the name invented not came up with well in polly's facial
43:55
expression he looks over is he perplexed because he hasn't yet heard the dollar
44:01
figure yet yeah the captains say rocky now your payday will be 150 000 which we know is 780 thousand dollars today money
44:07
says a big paycheck so at this moment paulie hasn't heard that just yet he's about to hear it but watch
44:14
what he does the moment he hears the amount how he reacts his brain starts spinning right away the gears start
44:20
turning and paulie head how he can how he can make money off this it will be 150
44:26
000 any comment uh you you got no comment rocky right no
44:32
no comment all right oh i know any comment hey you're a poor
44:39
guy right look at your sweater so you're obviously poor this is the nicest clothes you could have and what's wrong with the sweater why
44:45
does everybody like no nothing i love the sweater down i love the sweater but it's indication that
44:50
he doesn't have a suit is that what you mean yeah like this is the best he's got as a sweater okay yeah yeah the thing
44:56
that's so great about this whole scene is that it gives you a lot of information about these two guys without
45:01
doing a whole lot of work because you know you see rocky at this press conference he's obviously
45:09
uncomfortable apollo does these things in his sleep apollo doesn't blink an eye but i just
45:15
like how this scene communicates the differences between these guys because
45:20
rocky is completely he has never even heard of a prefs controvers before and
45:26
all of a sudden he's standing there with cameras in his face i think it does a great job of communicating
45:32
all of that character information in this one small scene it's amazing scene there's so much that goes on here thank
45:39
you rocky i just want to say hi to my girl your agent it's me rocky look at this
45:47
you believe it i love this yo adrian rocky and look at look at how
45:53
she's holding his arm i love it look at that moment she's so excited to hear her name on tv of course rocky knows his
45:59
comment that's why he's like leaning forward it's like his own reaction video so to speak he knows that this this is
46:05
coming so he he can't wait to see adrian's face that he's called her out on tv so he knows his cover that's why he's so excited here at this moment
46:12
rocky is not even that excited about him talking about apollo he can't wait to share that moment with his girlfriend
46:18
really good point ryan agreed yeah and he goes on to say here because i posit but he's about to say you believe
46:24
all this microphones and all that stuff that's great
46:32
microphones and all that stuff and all that stuff i love it and she's just so thrilled by
46:39
this didn't she goes you didn't did you ever catch that before you didn't
46:45
i love that subtlety there i don't think i have yeah no she goes you didn't thank you does she get a haircut it does look
46:51
sharp yeah so i think she's dolled up i think she's changed her hair she's wearing looser fitting clothes
46:56
or less clothes yeah she had sex and got her hair done the next day that's amazing yeah this is a whole new woman
47:01
that's what i did the first time i had coitus i got a haircut um so they go thank you rocky and then
47:07
rocky kind of snaps this guy he goes who are you pushing man because he gets shoved off the stage
47:13
yeah they did what i love is they didn't edit any of this out they just left it in
47:20
yeah yeah that's it to your point to jared about what this communicates to us is that he is still just like this
47:27
bum from the neighborhood like a street thug he can't hide that doesn't know how yeah agreed yeah good point apollo's
47:33
already gone at this point yeah he left earlier and then they talked to rock but you're right they didn't edit that out which is why i edit folks that's why i
47:40
could record for an hour and a half but it's an hour and 12 episode because not everything makes the cut okay guys you just because it happened doesn't mean
47:45
everyone gets to hear it only only if you're live in the audience should they have seen this who you pushing man you think the news affiliate would have cut
47:52
that out because we know this isn't live because rocky's watching it now so you're right they should have cut it out there's a pre-tape yeah
47:58
man thank you see smack in the mouth
48:04
thank you rocky they're like thank you thank you rocky that's great i didn't catch that that's
48:10
the first time i've seen smack you in the mouth same i wonder how many of our other listeners have caught that discord
48:15
people let us know have you ever caught him saying smack in the mouth rocky
48:21
here don't it matter he making you out of fool so paulie's caught it he felt rocky look stupid there or it was made
48:27
to look stupid there because he was out of his element like you're saying so if you're out of your element we just see later in the films rocky is
48:33
very used to press conferences not an issue this one he's all over the place rightfully so
48:40
why january i'd break his lips punch as long as a
48:46
flat show so weird so louis says he's always caught that
48:51
line that's good and you know he's also shared that he shared a picture here in our discord that's why i always say
48:56
people got to come to our discord i love her discord family shared a picture of him at a school fair history fair
49:02
project about american history revolution because look i knew my knowledge from the fifth grade history
49:07
of fair project would pay off someday wow that's a deep cut too
49:13
man that's awesome that's hilarious what rocky says here don't bother me none now of course yeah we'll find out later if
49:19
it does or doesn't don't bother me i guess you'd be looking for people to
49:26
help you out help look if
49:34
need someone to help with the exercise and someone's standing by with a towel or running errands you know that hey yo
49:40
paul who cared about me yesterday i'm nobody so i just think i'm going to train myself you know so i love how
49:46
rocky doesn't say no to you paulie he didn't want to quote hurt his feeling he just said generally speaking i don't
49:53
need nobody i think rocky really still believed that but he's just he's not saying i don't want you to work with me
49:58
paulie he said i don't need nobody because he says where was everyone before this you know he's right there
50:03
was nobody asking the ie mickey which he'll address later of course that would be the next episode by the way which i'm
50:09
sorry katie you're going to miss that episode so spoiler alert our next episode episode 13 we'll have kyle will be back and katie
50:16
won't hear but but doug will be filling in for you katie so doug gets to cover that scene so he's really looking forward okay so he has to really bring
50:22
it with the trivia yes he'll be your substitute but he needs yeah he needs to really bring his a game there i'm sorry
50:29
you're going to fall way behind with him he's a lovable guy but i mean i love doug but he's like rocky smart
50:36
damn it okay also i like that rocky is all ready so rocky's eating an apple
50:42
and paulie is saying that paulie can help him lead the clean life while he's drinking a beer
50:48
i mean could he look could bert young look more like a slob
50:54
that he does right now and saying you need somebody to help with the exercise and this he can run errands
51:01
i'm surprised he would want to run errands it seems like paulie would think errand running was beneath him paul is
51:07
the type of assistant that he would get in the system to do his errands and give that a little bit of the cut yeah yeah yeah paulie's trying to get a couple
51:13
bucks from that 150 000 1976 dollars trying to get a little bit of cut of that rocket's like oh i don't really
51:19
need any help and now paulie's pissed off here now he's like oh my gosh you won't give me a job with gossip he won't
51:25
give me a job with you yeah paulie because you got a big mouth such good people wrong i hope you don't
51:31
have such a good chance sly wanted to mention that he really loves bert's hands he said nobody can do
51:37
the bird hand gesture for young hand gestures like bert young like the way he's able to move his hands and the film
51:43
especially in the first rocky film here how he expresses themselves with the hand he goes yeah burt was the best at that really good point
51:50
he doesn't have like sweat to wipe off but when he hears the monetary figure he
51:56
goes like this he's just like whew have you noticed four or five times he was playing with the crotch of his pants too
52:02
in this scene it keeps reaching down and pulling up the crotch i don't think i noticed that
52:08
actually i don't know what bert young's heritage is but it must be six i think so i mean i talk a lot with my hands but
52:15
it's a another stereotype of italians how dare you i know dare you talk with
52:20
their hands i do want to mention the doilies you notice the doilies on the armrest have you seen that before
52:25
yes it's such like a their house with like the tea set and stuff it's an
52:30
interesting mixture of bad 70s with victorian era stuff i just love how
52:36
paulie's allowed the doilies to even stay there i would just assume you'd think they were stupid but yeah i guess they do kind of protect from the beer
52:42
can soaks in some of the beer can moisture i don't know baz in our chat says do you think adrian's a coffee or
52:48
tea drinker do you think she's drinking tea or coffee in the scene i assumed t be just because it was like night time but i could be wrong i think
52:56
it's tea as well but this is what louise had to say he said that she was a tea drinker before having cardinal knowledge
53:01
of rocky but now she drinks multiple coffees and espressos after she was busted
53:07
okay maybe she makes irish coffee like she's gotta she's gonna booze it up yeah
53:14
so jared just said it's just for our listeners who don't see this jared said to step out for a second but it's fine but we'll keep going here
53:19
einstein flunked out of school twice that's it
53:25
i love that that's a total sibling ability to do that
53:30
so einstein failed out of school twice that's probably true obviously i would assume there's something to that effect
53:36
that we i've heard this before that yes the public school system and or whatever it doesn't handle geniuses very well he
53:41
was probably all over the place that didn't challenge him that he wasn't doing the proper curriculum she goes on to say here beethoven was deaf hadn't
53:48
hella color was blind she should have said that the hell color was also blind deaf and dumb she was all three what is
53:53
dumb well she was blind and deaf can't speak that's what i mean i think she could speak couldn't she no i think she
53:59
was just blind and deaf well let's verify with jared here jared's a knowledgeable man he's he's kind of like he's kind of like a kyle 2.0 what'd you
54:05
say yeah for sure that's weird is jarrody back uh yeah i'm sorry about that okay helen keller we're just saying
54:11
that beethoven's deaf yes einstein dropped out of school twice or got failed out of school twice but she says
54:16
here that helen keller was blind but she was also deaf i believe mute is what you're she was blind and deaf and i believe she
54:24
was a mute as well all right here we go yeah beethoven was deaf helen keller was
54:29
blind i think rocky's got a good chance i love how she's like you know i've just given you three examples of people that
54:35
are deaf blind and can't speak so i think rocky's got a good chance yeah exactly uh
54:43
i'd be like uh okay yeah hey ryan you're gonna run the olympics yeah yeah that guy who had you know two missing legs he
54:49
did it okay right i think he got a good chance oh yeah thanks actually i've heard that the prosthetics
54:55
are um like helpful but yeah yeah bouncy they're bouncy yeah yeah all
55:05
he's right the seat you want me get your beer paulie hey you looking to do a good deed keep out of my
55:11
freaking life definitely drunk definitely a bit drunk what are you doing no i say something you know you didn't say
55:18
nothing it's all right great one paulie's got good ears because he's already in the kitchen he already hears that quiet conversation so
55:24
now adrian's definitely confided in rocky like what did i say i don't understand so she's kidding now she's getting positive confirmation rocky's
55:31
pulling agent away from paulie which is a lot of his angers coming from this because his
55:36
enablement is coming from adrien right he is the way he is because adrian didn't really stand up to him just yet and we're going to see later of course
55:42
in the film where an agent really stands up to him because she's getting strength from rocky she's starting to realize i'm not the problem this guy is mentally
55:48
dysfunctional an abuser an alcoholic it actually isn't me i've been a victim of this guy so she's trying to get strength
55:54
from rocky she's saying that am i saying anything wrong here and brock isn't no you're not saying anything wrong that's right you didn't say nothing nothing at
56:00
all i love his hands do you see his hands there he does a gun pointing figure with
56:06
his hands pointing down usually nothing at all i love the way he does his hands i love that hand action yeah we talked
56:12
about it before too when he was trying to convince rocky to like go talk to the door and get her to go out on the date and he kept kind of like nudging him
56:19
yeah yeah go you're good with that stuff you're good with this stuff funny funny
56:25
funny
56:30
he's like hey take this apple core i know i was thinking that too there and oh i'm still pissed music just make the
56:36
meet later but he apologized for that he apologized for that i know i know but it's like it
56:43
just keeps reminding me that it's the 70s because yeah it's like she's the woman so she's just like clean up you want me to get
56:48
you a beer polly good old days love it gotta get away from
56:54
racist probably where the freaking pres actually that's me the kitchen with becky all the time i don't know where anything is i don't yell at her
57:00
because she would kick me in the nuts how do you not know where things are in your own house i'm horrible don't get me
57:06
started i didn't know how to log into my bank i haven't seen my bank account in 12 years no that's not even possible
57:12
true story i don't even know how to log in i don't even know how to get access to my bank i don't know how to do it okay oh man
57:20
all right here we go where's the freaking pretzels becky where are the pretzels
57:33
about the pretzels and the beer list and the the chatter yeah hey
57:42
[Music] you can't find the pretzels there's no more beer you drank with all your [ __ ]
57:48
yeah exactly now you notice how they're quote-unquote cold outside see that how they're cold and it's supposed to be uh november
57:55
right yeah i'm not sure when this was filmed exactly there have been some cold scenes per se but what do you notice on
58:01
the fence there folks what do you notice that red there see that red is that flower blue roses
58:12
good eye thank you how'd you like hearing your name on tv tonight
58:18
i was shocked why'd you do that well you put me on right absolutely
58:24
now explain that exchange there the way she says it is she's showing her dry humor because that's dry humor i was
58:30
shocked why'd you do that now that sounds like she was angry and then rocky says you're putting me on
58:36
right like are you teasing me and then she goes absolutely is she i don't know or is she really mad that it happened i
58:41
don't really know no no she's showing her sense of humor there a little bit okay that's how i take it it's weird but
58:48
it's a strange exchange it is strange exactly yeah because if she's being funny
58:53
he isn't laughing if she's not being funny why is she upset because she laughed in the in the
58:58
living room so the evidence in the living room indicates that she liked it i was shocked why'd you do that i think she was still like it was cool why'd you
59:05
do that but i don't think she was angry but then i don't really get the you put me on right like i don't know um i
59:12
wonder if paulie had any sexual relations post 1976 yes he did because he had a girlfriend rocky balboa but
59:17
that scene was cut out he lived with his girlfriend rocky balboa yeah she like kicked him out right yeah yeah she
59:23
didn't have any pretzels for him well he brings a hooker to the fight that's true no post 76 oh okay yeah but there was a
59:31
film scene with him with a girlfriend and she was actually on screen oh yeah what time should i expect you
59:36
well about seven you know i think you're putting me on right i wonder if maybe by you're
59:43
putting me on just means like they had had a conversation about he was going to stop by for breakfast you're you're
59:49
having me i think he's asking regarding that she was shocked by it the way she sounded to me the way she like if i was
59:56
watching that one scene cold and if you were to bring anyone in who's never seen this film before you just told them look
1:00:01
he just announced her on tv like we saw the whole exchange i would think 95 of
1:00:06
any audience who sees this scene for the first time only with no contacts would say that she was not happy about him
1:00:12
calling her name on tv that's why the scene doesn't quite work we conjecture around it because we know
1:00:17
the characters we saw the but that scene doesn't work on its own as that she liked it she thought it was great to me
1:00:23
it seems like she was kind of mad about it because you're putting me on like why you're putting me on that you're upset by this and she was like yeah absolutely
1:00:29
yeah i don't know i was just maybe trying to find another way of explaining he was transitioning to a new
1:00:35
conversation after the by you're putting me on right tomorrow morning when i stopped by let me go back
1:00:41
let's just watch the wave again i'm sorry guys i know you i know you like hearing your name on tv tonight
1:00:48
i was shocked why'd you do that well you put me on right absolutely
1:00:54
but then let it play then he says what time should i expect she says what time should i expect you what time should i
1:00:59
expect you it's not i think it's poorly written yeah i think again yeah a flawless movie with its
1:01:06
mistakes we definitely have script mistakes i think we have poor writing here meaning it's well-acting it's
1:01:11
beautifully shot all these things but i don't think the conversation is flowing quite right from my ears
1:01:17
i think it's a bad segue where i pause it that was that event they're talking about the event of the tv conference now
1:01:23
this event is we already talked about you're coming tomorrow after your run we know he wakes up early the next morning because he has
1:01:28
to start training for this fight that's the first ache scene that we see coming up he's like you're gonna see me tomorrow morning at 7 00 am that's when
1:01:35
you're going to see me and that's all it is so she knows he's coming over well about seven
1:01:42
hey now she leaves i love that he's like hey where are you going you gotta give me the good night kiss come on now what are you doing
1:01:54
train oh yeah yeah so they gave a little kiss here now i know they had coitus but what
1:01:59
i kind of like is though they kind of i hate to say they got out of their system that big tension that build up i kind of
1:02:04
like how they kind of got that out of their system but i think there's a part of me that kind of thinks that i don't know if they did it again
1:02:10
until they were married i i wonder how active they were before their marriage because that kiss there indicates kind of like now we're back to
1:02:17
boyfriend or girlfriend that we're just starting the date i think they've kind of slowed things down a little bit yeah i guess i just thought it's like new
1:02:23
relationship awkwardness maybe yeah [Music]
1:02:28
[Applause] you know i said that stuff on tv didn't
1:02:34
bother me or not [Music]
1:02:40
it did [Music]
1:02:47
wow that's pretty huge especially in the 70s men seemingly didn't emote much i think that's why sly wrote it i think
1:02:53
that was the whole idea that was a the show sly or the rocky characters
1:02:58
tenderness that he has he's a thumb breaker slash works for gazelle he's a fighter what we've seen
1:03:04
rocky five you know it's a much maligned film but adrian says to rocky you know you gave him everything but you can't give him your heart it's just showing
1:03:10
that rocky has a heart he feels man he feels strong i think more than anything
1:03:16
his heart is what is this is his greatest strength and rocky is not dumb or stupid that he is catching the
1:03:23
subtleties he is catching the mocking he's just not confrontational so at the
1:03:29
same time he's kind of like it rolls over into a degree but it does hurt him in this time period it is
1:03:34
unusual for him to be displaying that kind of vulnerability especially to his brand new
1:03:40
girlfriend i think they both recognize at this point they're very kindred spirits
1:03:47
he's comfortable doing that there's a very tender moment and then we get the you know the music comes in to
1:03:53
make it even more emotional it's like oh we're just like falling in love with these people yeah yeah and i love the
1:03:59
shot of it too it's a real close-up on the side profile of rocky's face with adrian blur in the background and rocky
1:04:04
walks away and adrien comes into focus and she's like boy my guy is more she's also seen that too like he is a
1:04:10
tender man that yeah she the jackpot i'm sure this won't won't come as a surprise to you guys not
1:04:16
that i speak for all women but most women their dream man is like a tough guy with a sensitive side like we want
1:04:23
both yeah one of those things i'm not the tough guy for me i would be like dude i literally
1:04:29
hit the jackpot he's hot he's fit all of the things he's um humble
1:04:34
he's smarter yeah i just and now he's also super sensitive and loving love it love it we know yeah it's great lastly
1:04:41
for our discord i want to thank everyone that's joined us today we had a few people in today's good to see bass says
1:04:46
he thinks rocky's been put down a lot in his life so he doesn't quite know how to fight back so it's just easier for him to be in on the joke that's a a really
1:04:54
good point yeah all right are you guys ready for your answers ready so okay did you mind keeping score for the three of
1:04:59
us yeah okay so okay jared is filling in for kyle so i'm sorry kyle but doug will be doing it for you next time katie so
1:05:05
i'm sorry you'll probably get zero out of five next week katie i'm sorry um i can't wait for tech to hear this
1:05:11
all right all right here we go so what is the name of the ring announcer now is he just referring to jurgens as the kind
1:05:17
of like the emcee of the fight is that what he means by ring announcer or is he talking about the play-by-play guide see the ring announcer is to me the person
1:05:23
inside the ring announcing outside the ring or is it the person seeing the events in the ring play by play i didn't think it was the
1:05:31
guys who were calling the fight for the radio or television it's the guy saying like weighing
1:05:37
x amount in this corner is so and so and this corner is so-and-so like that's who i assure you i know
1:05:42
jurgens does talk about we just witnessed the greatest right in the world
1:05:48
kyle's actually got that memorized i think anyways so i put i put jergens and i don't know what his answer was where did you guys put it i put leroy neyman i
1:05:56
put jergens wasn't leroy neiman in one of them i couldn't remember like the painter yes yeah yeah he's one of them
1:06:02
didn't know if it was the first time part two he ring announces the charity fight in part three
1:06:08
he announces he is the winner in part five okay so here we go question 26 is
1:06:14
miles jurgens that's what he's referring to okay well you guys got it then it is witnessed my greatest event right now
1:06:23
all right all right all right so 27 okay what animal is the
1:06:28
cages that asian has to clear out packages cat cages yep true or false adrian is the owner of the pet store
1:06:35
fault i'm trying to get gloria the actress i'm gonna reach out to her yeah i hope to get her she's still alive she's about
1:06:42
slice age she's interesting now if you google her you'll see what i mean she does these weird poetry readings from
1:06:47
her own books on youtube and it's really quite odd but i like to talk to her okay
1:06:53
what year did rocky win the academy award here's what i'm thinking it won
1:06:58
for 1976's best picture the award itself was presented in 1977.
1:07:06
i'm not sure what he's looking for but could i put 77 as well that was the year it won the award is the answer 77 it was
1:07:14
the year of the account it was like yeah that's the year of the academy awards year did rocky win an academy award i
1:07:20
think the academy awards are usually held in februaryish february march-ish by the end of december of the previous
1:07:25
year no more films can be entered for that calendar year okay well i'm really doing piss-poorly and then if
1:07:32
next week i'm gonna oh yeah doug oh boy oh boy okay last question uh who says
1:07:39
don't leave town rocky rocky yeah rocky all right so you guys each got all five
1:07:44
right yeah i'm surprised well jared kind of almost gave me him because maybe ryan you're overthinking
1:07:49
i'm like okay well the the announcer is miles jorge is the only one that can remember talking that wasn't the
1:07:54
play-by-play guy okay well yeah i am an overthinker so yeah you have the bill baldwin and stu nahan
1:08:01
were the announcers doing the play-by-play but i thought it was miles jurgens i like conflate a lot of the
1:08:08
fights so i like forget who yeah so i was like oh didn't lever and even do it and then it wasn't sly's dad somebody he
1:08:15
rang the bell oh yeah okay so frank was a singer senior rang the bell yeah okay well i
1:08:22
only got three you guys each got five i will hold that for kyle okay for next week
1:08:28
that was a fun fun episode fun-filled episode guys thanks for joining us everyone and make sure you join us for episode 13 where katie will be fired
1:08:35
from the show i'm going to rehire kyle and doug will replace katie for that so katie uh i don't know what you have to
1:08:40
do to make it up but we'll figure it out uh i'm gonna look very different next week
1:08:46
all right so thank you everyone to join our discord before we leave i just want to say join our discord support us on
1:08:51
patreon what does patreon give you well i'm actually getting really good at getting those early audios out usually i release these episodes on a sunday uh
1:08:58
one more round is one sunday then it's a long road is the following sunday so if you're listening to both shows that's usually how my listeners will they'll
1:09:03
get ryan every week so you get ramble rocky ramble rocky but if you're just a rocky listener which is totally cool
1:09:09
that's why you get us every second week but if you join the patreon what it does is just for a dollar as much as you want
1:09:14
you can donate whatever but for a dollar and or more a month you get early edits before the listing audience which gets
1:09:20
you a chance to you know send us an email and stuff before everyone else and then on top of that you're just supporting me because i financially pay
1:09:26
for this show on the whole i pay for everyone's show to be online essentially part of the network so it supports me
1:09:32
lastly you're just saying hey thanks ryan so if i get more than what i pay for for the hosting fees then it gets
1:09:37
ryan a cup of coffee you know what i mean or something like that so it just supports me it's busking right this is free entertainment so you're saying hey
1:09:43
thanks ryan all right well with that the episode is over i didn't hear nobel
