welcome to it's a long road the ramble series podcast episode three i'm very
0:35
excited today for my special special special guest host joining me today
0:41
katie from the one more round podcast how you doing this morning i'm doing good how are you i'm doing really good
0:47
i'm excited to have you on i know there was discussion from our time on going the distance that you and kyle might
0:53
have come onto this show as regular hosts but i thought you know that's a lot to ask of you guys to cover rocky
0:59
rambo everything i wanted kind of a rotating guest host on this one get different voices
1:04
yeah i like that yeah but you're gonna be one of it's not like i'm gonna have 20 different guest holes i don't know what this number is it's going to be
1:10
probably under 10 at the end of the day regular people i should say there'll be other ones from other podcasts i want to
1:16
reach out to you know other shows and kind of yeah yeah but katie you and kyle of course are going to be one of the regular
1:21
rotating guest hosts and i'm really excited to have you on today because i know you love sly i do but what is your background or
1:29
fandom regarding the ramble series that's an interesting question because while i do like the rambo movies if some
1:36
other actor was in it i probably would not care for them the only reason that i
1:42
got into them is because of sylvester stallone being in them you know i was like a little kid in the 80s when these
1:48
kind of came out and so what was this 1982 or three first blood was and so it was like the rocky iii
1:56
sly i don't think i saw first blood first again similar to my experience with the rockies i saw probably part two
2:05
and three more and then you know kind of grew to really like the first one
2:10
probably the best again it's like similar to rocky in that it's more drama than it is like an action movie
2:18
which it gets more into action movies in the second and third ones that's kind of how i got into them again
2:24
the vhs tapes when i was little like those were the regular rotations yeah i just just kind of got to know them
2:30
because of that yeah i really don't know that much like i am not encyclopedic but
2:37
as with rocky i know way more i could spout off a lot from the rocky movies but the rambo movies i have to kind of
2:44
rewatch them to be able to speak to them there will be scenes that i'm like oh i totally forgot about that and that's
2:49
totally fine we have the ability and what we'll do on this show and what we've done for the first couple
2:55
of episodes of this podcast is we played the scenes you and i watch them together and then we'll talk about our feelings
3:01
you're right we're not a wikipedia podcast so to speak but we are going to offer some things here and there don't worry i'm going to take care of that
3:09
but no we want to talk about just yeah the things we're seeing on screen the acting from different side characters what we're experiencing how we feel
3:15
about things yeah i mean this is a fandom podcast it's not a informational one per se absolutely and i did wear
3:21
camo in honor of our are watching yeah so katie and i also co-host a podcast if
3:27
you're listening to this and you're like oh wow i like rambo and i like stallone but you haven't heard of our other podcast it's called one more round the
3:32
rocky series podcast where katie is one of my co-hosts with kyle where we discussed the rocky series in the exact same fashion that we're doing here with
3:39
the rambo series so check that out if you'd like to so yeah katie you're wearing a camouflage sweater top or
3:44
whatever do you call it top sweater what's the term for long sleeve tops well it is a sweater okay there's a difference
3:50
between a long sleeve shirt and a sweater but this is a sweater yes so with this movie i can wear camo but i
3:57
can't really wear unless i wear rocky's clothes or adrian's clothes i can't just be in boxing trunks for the rocky series
4:05
so you know that would be inappropriate yes well but this one i can dress for the occasion yes and donald is in our
4:11
discord or one of our faithful listeners donald and if you wanted if you want to join our discord check
4:16
out the description of every episode it gives you the link to the discord server it's called the last of the action heroes discord server it's where all the
4:23
shows meet together you can discuss the fandom of the action stars or the podcast you listen to i got a lot of
4:29
faith that this discord will grow and you can join the chats live that's the thing is you could be like donald everyone be like donald you can join
4:36
these chats live and be a part of the show you're like ingrained into the history of this podcast with your
4:41
comments and what have you so thank you donald and you get to see us live too because uh that's what everyone wants to see they want to see us live
4:49
i always feel bad because katie's always so dressed up and and i look like i just look like i just rolled out of bed but
4:55
anyways you remember i like your sweatshirt i like blue it's a good color thank you for you yeah thank you very
5:00
much well the last episode it was when rambo is arrested by sheriff teasels
5:06
those are the chain of events that have just occurred uh doug from rocky mountain and i discussed those events it was really good to get his insight as a
5:12
police officer about what did oh yeah yeah you know what did teasel do that was
5:19
appropriate not appropriate despite what you know we know him as a character but just in general what would doug have
5:24
done as a police officer in that situation so it's kind of interesting to hear his insights about how one may or may not have handled the
5:31
situation we're gonna get more into that of course now because today's episode episode three is
5:36
ramble being processed at the police station which again i know i think doug is a sergeant
5:41
so i i don't know quite i only know what i know from police procedurals on tv right so i think sergeants might do more
5:48
desk duty than um than street duty per se so doug might even have more insight about
5:54
again the proper way to process people at a station here i think what we're going to see there katie probably isn't
6:00
proper procedures i have a feeling not and also this is like the sheriff it's not the
6:06
local police station or is it i thought it was like the sheriff's office yeah it's yeah i think the idea
6:12
is hope this is taking place in the fictional town of hope washington state we know it's filmed in hope british
6:17
columbia canada but in the movie it's hope washington state and this is a it is a sheriff's
6:23
station so i think sheriff stations themselves are for smaller towns and so they don't have
6:30
a city at least it's just it's still the law of the town yeah the ligget
6:35
county sheriff's department that's who they work for okay liggett county sheriff's department
6:41
county liquor count hope washington in the county of liggett bravo is now being
6:46
walked into the station under the apprehension of sheriff teasel
6:54
all right got it so right away i kind of like this little setup here rambo's been escorted in his
6:59
right arm being held by sheriff teasel's left arm you got a little family here reporting at the desk with mitch played
7:05
by david crusoe i wonder why they were in there there's a boy and his parents i wonder if the boy got arrested for something he's been
7:12
discharged now i mean maybe like drinking or something like some silly stuff that kids do i think so because he
7:18
looks kind of like oh and there's a christmas tree that's right so first blood takes place
7:24
during the christmas season the christmas holidays or the christmas time of year which
7:29
kind of makes sense for what we see weather-wise here in washington state i'm in the pacific northwest we don't
7:35
get much snow pre-december a lot of our snow that does come in is
7:41
january february so this could very easily be let's say december 10th 12th 5th mid december type thing
7:48
but i love first blood is a often joked about it's a christmas film there's a lot of christmas films
7:55
why do action films take place over christmas there seems to be a lot of them i don't know on the show that i do on this network it's called the last of
8:01
the action heroes podcast do that with again with different guest hosts and we'd cover different films that are not
8:07
like basically it's like the b-roll c-roll actors we just covered it has been released but
8:12
i just recorded with the james bond podcast host jack we did invasion usa
8:18
uh with chuck norris it's a great movie it's uh it's never even heard of it yeah well just listen
8:23
to the podcast you don't really need will yeah oh i probably won't yeah well i shouldn't say that actually it's fun but
8:29
anyways so that and i also did burt reynolds heat i don't know if you remember we did burt reynolds yeah yeah both of those movies take
8:36
place at christmas as well i should have done some research on that of course takes place at christmas die
8:41
hard now first blood and i know those other two movies heat by burt reynolds and invasion us and rocky and rocky of
8:48
course yeah i know it's a major holiday but it's odd because we say they're christmas films that i hate actually i
8:53
hate it when people say diet it's a christmas film i don't like that it just takes place over the christmas holidays yeah okay but the point is it's just
9:00
funny how many times the backdrop is christmas mm-hmm all right
9:05
hey talking about your sorry looking humidity all right so this constable here right away says you know so teasel says he
9:12
look we gotta book this guy and this guy says no talk about your sorry looking humanity i did watch the movie this past
9:20
week just to kind of refresh my memory and especially in the scenes that we're
9:25
covering now and and some of the previous ones i find it very odd i think
9:30
it's confusing because he doesn't look like the issue is that he's like what do they call him a vagrant
9:37
a drifter and like he smells and long hair and it's like he doesn't appear
9:42
dirty at all i don't really understand what their issue is with him he doesn't
9:47
look like a troublemaker or anything he just has his army jacket on and they have issue with that seemingly and then
9:53
they seem confused that he's a soldier i i just i find this all very weird his hair is not long in the slightest
10:00
it's like an early mullet i don't know what do you think now i think it's partly
10:05
we're at the mercy of it being a movie so in the book he did look a little bit more dirty he
10:11
had a beard i think the hair was even longer okay yeah so he looked like a member of leonard skynyrd or something
10:18
that makes sense when they made the movie either make him look more like a vagrant
10:23
i would argue because it's stallone and it's the 80s and he's the star they got to sell the movie and so it's kind of
10:29
like you don't hide the star behind a beard and long hair okay you shouldn't reference that so much they should
10:34
reference something else like he's mysterious he seems like he might be here to cause trouble or something i
10:41
don't know i just find it strange that there's a lot of references to his appearance and his smell he doesn't
10:47
actually look bad i don't think it's the jacket too i think it's what he represents we talked about actually with
10:52
david morrell like during my interview where i said the same thing that i think it's more the jacket than the hair in
10:58
the movie in the book it's about the hair and the look even the jacket that's confusing like thank you for your service like why
11:05
are they you're speaking as a 2022 eyes i hear you in the 70s or you know i know there was a movement against the vietnam
11:12
war and stuff i guess i didn't realize that that was like a smaller movement but that the general republic still felt
11:19
okay they're soldiers we sent them there and maybe i'm wrong maybe there was a bigger sentiment about
11:25
a dislike of veterans it just seems very strange to me there really was a fact i
11:31
don't know if i mentioned in the david morale interview because i didn't want to say to david because he of course wrote the book he lived during that time
11:37
right the genesis for the ramble character was what mr morale witnessed at the time of
11:44
people that looked like hippies and stuff that the idea was they were mistreated by police officers they were
11:50
forced to have haircuts and have their face shaped that was a real thing in the 70s now not so much in the 80s but
11:56
again 60s and 70s people were literally arrested for looking like hippies shaved and get ready for court you couldn't go
12:03
to court with long hair and facial hair so they would cut their hair and shave them in the police station and then dump
12:08
them at the side of the road too after they were done processing them and a lot of them were of course veterans of war and so david was like i wonder what
12:15
would happen if one of these guys said f this um okay okay legit like rambo does
12:21
you're not wrong to be confused because we live in a time when can you imagine this happened today like
12:26
it's already bad enough like look and we talked about this with doug the police don't they don't train for this they don't
12:32
allow this to this isn't something that they would never say you're gonna do this this was allowed back then you were allowed to shave people's heads you
12:38
can't do that anymore you can't just arbitrarily show you a detainee's head so but they could back then you know
12:44
even just not so long ago it seems like now even though this was 40 years ago if you can believe this film was 40 years
12:49
oh my god oh that's wow we're getting older yeah because it came out when i was an infant
12:55
i think so yeah oh you're aging yourself don't do that i know i know just another smart ass drifter
13:03
good morning aren't there border i want you to book this gentleman for
13:09
vagrancy resisting arrest carrying a concealed weapon all right so he's been booked on three
13:15
charges vacancy resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon which of course now he
13:20
pulls out the famous hunting knife the rambo knife and shows it to galt now let's talk about galt here okay we're
13:26
going to get back to mitch later that played by david cruz but galt art galt galt himself
13:32
is a jerk obviously in the movie we know that anyone that's a fan of first blood knows that he kind of has guess what's coming to
13:39
him in in the movie in the book he was more like the mitch character and i actually read the book just recently i
13:46
read the book i got all the major beats in my head but there's a lot of side characters i don't know who they were in i so i think there's some characters
13:53
here in the movie that were in the book and vice versa or some of their personalities were interchanged between characters in the book okay
13:58
but gold of course is really popular in the film he's a very minor character in the book
14:04
uh shingleton is in both the book and the movie and they were kind of vice versa
14:09
where he's a minor role in the movie of a bigger role in the book okay okay so anyway so galt's character the book's
14:15
more quiet dismissive he's not really angry like he is here keep that in mind i'm gonna i'll tell you what happens to
14:21
galt in the book when we get to the scene okay okay so gaul right now is about to grab the knife from teasel
14:26
he says he uses it for hunting
14:32
so what do you hunt elephants it's not that big i mean it's it's like
14:37
[Laughter] i mean it is odd to be carrying a knife like that i don't know i thought that
14:43
line was odd also i found a lot of things odd sure watching it now no again 40
14:51
years ago i would say a knife like that was unique to films at the time i don't think we saw
14:57
the blade is you know it's probably i don't see how many inches because i don't want to i don't know how many inches that is
15:05
i mean it's 8 10 i don't know all right the blade itself is is unique because it has that serrated top part i think that
15:12
was unique at the time i don't know if knives were quite made like that where it has the it's a very sharp knife with the
15:19
kind of almost like a sword look to it and then that then at the top half from the
15:25
middle to the end of the pointy end of course is that jagged serrated part used to saw through things
15:30
so i think that was unique i know that blade was made for the movie it must have been a use oh really yeah i think
15:35
well stallone wanted it for the film that is pretty cool nowadays everyone he would probably have a gun that would be
15:41
the issue a knife would be very strange now i think it's showing that he lives off the land he he's not quite as
15:48
violent as you think he's not a in this film anyways that he's you know he uses it but he also you
15:55
could say with a knife you don't have to reload it or buy ammunition or it's easier to take care of and it's
16:00
about protection and hunting not so much he's not going out killing people with a gun but you're right probably in today's
16:06
movie he might be carrying a concealed weapon more than a knife i would say yeah now galt was played by an actor now this
16:13
i this i found interesting the guy's name was jack starrett he actually died in 1989 just seven
16:21
years after this film oh at the age of 52. so he was about 46 in this film so he's my age in this film
16:28
i was no way oh my god he looks like
16:33
60. well you know what's crazy so he's 46 here and i'm 46. and here's sheriff
16:39
teasel played by brian dennehy he's 44 here nah uh
16:44
this is insanity yeah to me i don't know what it is about when you see actors back in the day or what i
16:51
don't understand it either like i'm two years older than teasel here it is odd i mean even when i think back
16:57
to my parents and their friend they just seemed older like they were younger than i am now when they had company over
17:04
that's what that what it was called back then we're having company over but so do you know if brian dennehy was
17:10
also approximately 44 in the movie yeah he's 44 here the actor okay do you
17:16
know how old he's supposed to be his character i think in this movie i like the books they were younger in the books
17:22
by about 10 years each so in the book sheriff teasel was about his mid 30s and wow rambo was 21-22 ish they didn't
17:30
give his exact age i don't recall but it was early 20s so he fought a few years in the war the war was still going on in
17:35
the book so that's the difference so the vietnam war was still happening in the book when the book was published it was
17:41
still happening so it was it was interesting that you had a veteran of the war as your main character released
17:47
by a book still happening during the war because at the time they didn't know when the war was going to end so it'd be like writing a well let's say you wrote
17:54
a book about a ukrainian soldier right now during the russian conflict and have it published still during the conflict
17:59
like it's not over yet but this movie does take place in 82 and it does take place after the war has been over for
18:05
about seven years six to seven years i would say stallone loves to play younger than what he is but stallone's 36 in
18:11
this film i would say his character's probably 32 and i would say teasel's about 44. i think that works because he
18:17
was a korean veteran as well so their agents do make sense in the film as well as as do with the actors ages so it all
18:23
kind of lines up here easily enough now we're gonna see galt's going to test out the knife here
18:30
oh yeah i want to go back to the actor sorry so his name is jack starrett so he died of kidney failure at the age of 52.
18:37
wow yeah but it's interesting he did a lot of different movie roles for example he was in blazing saddles and he was
18:43
also a director of film and television for a while and he also guest started stuff like in on the a-team and knight
18:49
rider hill street blues so he had a prolific career it's unfortunate that he passed at such a
18:55
young age yeah 52. i mean yeah i thought it was really young i guess he would be 86 now if he was still alive so but yeah
19:02
that's too bad he's so great here you just know right away he's he's a dick yeah you do
19:08
just see if you can clean them up a little bit all right smells like an animal
19:13
so there you go smells like an animal let's see if we can clean them up a little bit i don't know i'd snuggle up with him looking like
19:19
that i don't think he looks like he smells or looks bad at all he smeals mainly
19:25
he does good one ryan now galt's about to cut through some paperwork here with the knife to show us
19:32
the audience just how sharp this is and it's a smart looking knife when you see it up close here it's a smart looking knife
19:38
hey mitch [ __ ] yo escort this young man downstairs already we're kind of seeing that rambo
19:45
is already getting the layout of the land so to speak in the book and i should make
19:51
note that it's probably here as well he allowed himself to be arrested by teasel
19:56
because in the book he says that he could have killed teasel with his bare hands right there so when
20:01
he was first arrested by teasel there was no reason why rambo couldn't have done that but he didn't want to kill
20:06
tiezel he did in the book and in the movie so he's actually willingly giving himself over and to him right now it's
20:13
almost a semi game for him right now so he's already looking at ways to escape because he's now he's looked at
20:18
the where they locked the weapons he's just noted where this deputy has yeah stores the weapons and so he's
20:25
kind of you that's what we're showing here is he's looking around where everything is that's why they're showing this shot here oh yes sir
20:32
now we have mitch david crusoe's mitch coming over i'm 99 sure mitch the character was not in the book oh
20:38
okay i put it on my list of books to read i'm uh hopefully we'll read it by
20:44
the time i come on again appear on again yeah well yeah please do we're gonna hold that to you now
20:50
okay right this way partner so mitch is young he's like 22
20:56
he's a newly minted constable played by david cruz of course of csi miami he
21:01
literally looks 12 right i mean he's looks so young here yeah well he's the
21:07
youngest member of the force yes he does look very very very young and so i think he probably is about that age in the
21:12
film i didn't look up his age crystal's age at this point but i would suspect he's probably in his early 20s just like the character yeah he's got that baby
21:18
face for sure definitely right here that's it
21:25
and he's actually nice he's courteous and treating him with respect yeah he's just talking to
21:31
him come over here right here he's gently leading them over to where he needs to go yeah he's not being a dick
21:38
about it [Music]
21:44
so gold comes over door's been opened by mitch and gul comes over with his night stick
21:50
that's already kind of unnecessary like he has his night stick out
21:55
and he puts it on the back backside of rambo to nudge him into where he needs to go it
22:00
is just a show of power it's completely unnecessary you know it looks like it's going to take old leroy about 10 years
22:07
to paint this hall they're going down to the
22:12
processing area i guess the station looks like almost like a basement of sorts but it was locked protected i
22:17
guess this is where prisoners are held so fair enough and they got a janitor named leroy of
22:23
course leroy is cleaning and gold's even like crap talking the gender oh i was gonna take a leroy forever to clean up
22:29
this place and then leroy says well you clean up your damn self this gulf character just can't let anything slide past him he's just gotta crap talk
22:35
everything around him come on leroy sling that pain boy mr ward oh he's painting okay painting
22:42
yeah typewriter i love it
22:49
all the paperwork back then and typewriters are the worst because have you ever operated a typewriter i have
22:54
yeah you put that oh yeah it's the worst because you have to put that paper in you have to line up just right when
22:59
you're typing those things because you know what i mean you just can't put ugh it's the worst and deleting is you have
23:05
to be much more careful because errors are really hard to clean up since you're behind and behind gold's head says
23:10
you're being videotaped oh yeah it looks like a handwritten poster board or something doesn't it that's funny you're
23:17
being videotaped anything you say and everything you do is being blah blah blah you know it can be used you can see
23:23
in court probably says that's funny name
23:28
so he's asking for his name now they've taken off his restraints while he's down there which i guess is fine i know they've got to process them
23:35
but mitch takes off his uh handcuffs and ramble starts rubbing his hands together your name
23:41
your name all right so he sees the crossbars on the window going outside
23:47
and of course now he's gonna we're seeing the ptsd in his mind about being a prisoner of war i think it's
23:53
interesting that this is the first time we get a flashback i think that's a nice an interesting way
23:58
of showing what he went through why he's being the way that he is so yeah this is
24:03
the first one of many yeah the flashbacks are coming and we're also kind of seeing the narrative here that
24:10
he's being treated almost just as poorly by the police in his home the whole country as he was by vietnamese
24:16
officers yeah because they throw they throw water on him he's like in a hole it's worse than it's yeah crap it was
24:23
manure oh is that what it is was it feces they threw human feces on them
24:32
i love how we see rambo in the tiger pit so it's like an animal pit so the idea would be that you
24:37
could throw meat down to the tiger without being mauled by the tiger but now there's a
24:43
human down there they would chuck not food to ramble they would chuck feces and dirt on them instead he's tied up
24:50
almost like a crucifixion the way that his hand right yeah he's like this it
24:55
looks like his legs are split sprayed out too but he's got that mustache there you like that handlebar mustache he's wearing
25:01
do you not care for that do you do you think it's a real or um
25:07
like did you think that no no it's got to be the amount of time would take to grow it out just for this quick scene
25:12
it's got to be it's got to be makeup it's right there all that stuff they
25:18
just dumped on them from like four buckets worth of stuff was looked like the latrine buckets from the soul
25:24
oh my god that's horrifying name [Music]
25:30
now galt here the actor that plays from jack boy he does a great job he almost loves it that rambo hasn't given the
25:37
names oh boy we got some fun like it's a bit boring to the office not anymore you know hey this is great this guy's giving
25:42
him grief and he just wants to play galt loves the idea that he's yeah any chance to be a [ __ ] yeah oh yeah hey
25:50
if you're looking for trouble you came to the right place buddy call wait a second he's asking for the
25:56
name the name's not coming mitch says hey cult just wait a second because he mitch notices
26:01
the dog tags hanging from ramble's neck and of course he knows well dog tags will have his information
26:07
but mitch made a very much a rookie mistake he went to go touch a prisoner
26:12
now granted he took off the handcuffs so this i mean probably shouldn't take off the handcuffs just yet but he took off
26:18
the handcuffs of ramble and now he's about to grab the dog tags which is like sacred territory for a soldier
26:23
around the neck of rambo of course now rambo's gonna respond to that hey you got three seconds before i break
26:30
your face in he means it yeah i do again a great scene so rambo shows
26:36
his quick reflexes grabs the wrists of mitch just to get his hands off the the dog tags and then galt's ready to smash
26:42
his face in now you almost have to give gult some credit here the way he's all wound up that he didn't hit rambo
26:49
i really liked that mitch is kind of trying to be helpful almost he's saying
26:55
it very calmly and almost like a helpful way to ramble he means it so you better please do what he says so that
27:01
you don't get hurt it's kind of how it seemed to me oh absolutely yeah he it which i feel
27:06
bad for mitch i think he's in it over his head with these personalities right above him yeah well not for long he's gonna lose two of
27:12
them before the end of the week and when gul says you know i'm gonna
27:18
break your face in like that's just such a what a thing to say like that's the words you use i'm gonna you know break
27:23
in your face i'm not a police officer i don't know their tactics but my understanding for the use of the
27:30
night stick or the uh batons that they have they're called asp batons asp batons i've done some security training
27:36
in the military because i'm in i am in the military so i've done some of that training i'm not police trained of course but i've done security training
27:42
and we use what we're called ask batons they're the ones that they flip out and like this
27:48
i don't think police officers carry night sticks anymore they carry the batons because they're gotta yeah that makes sense
27:54
so and they hurt but because they're steel you're trained to hit not their face or head ever you're
28:00
not supposed to be lethal it's to debilitate the person so side of their leg or the shins or the side of their
28:05
arms type thing you're not even trying to break their arms you can and they are designed to do that but oh wow yeah but
28:12
so for him to say i would go for his face is actually wrong in that moment i would unders i would suspect you would
28:18
just hit him in the arm the arm holding the the person you just hit him in his heart because he's gonna let go but the
28:23
idea for gold is what i'm getting at he's no i'm gonna break your face in like to your point about the sign earlier
28:30
that said you're being videotaped galt does not care i feel like he knows he's
28:35
doing wrong that he's not supposed to be that way and he runs the show here and so no he can do whatever the heck he
28:41
wants regardless of whether or not he's being videotaped but nowadays i can't even imagine and
28:47
for what again i'm so confused by this whole movie because it's not like he's like a serial killer or like child molester he
28:56
was arrested for vagrancy it's insane to me that how they're treating him you couldn't treat a prisoner that way even
29:02
if he was a serial killer but he like didn't do anything i i find this whole movie so strange
29:08
i know the narrative doesn't make sense today's way of thinking however he's representing a war
29:14
that nobody liked nobody wanted and he's carrying that jack with a flag on it the
29:20
long hair so to speak and all this and he's being non-compliant it's the personality types now if the whole
29:25
police station was full of mitch's personalities this wouldn't be happening but the idea is that galt's right if
29:31
you're looking for trouble become the right place yeah this place is not friendly to people like rambo meaning
29:37
he's a strong personality himself he's also got his back up and he looks like he can take care of himself so these
29:43
guys are being yeah they're being bullies at the end of the day yeah we're wearing the badges we're the ones that put on the handcuffs and you're not
29:49
doing what we're telling you to do and it's a combination of yeah we'll show you what we can do and unfortunately
29:54
this does happen in the real world where sometimes when people have authority they think that gives them the right to
30:00
be dicks and they just yeah they love it now he shouldn't have pulled off the dog tags
30:05
like that so mitch does pull the dog tags off he should have just maybe looked at them i don't blame rambo he's
30:11
like really look on his face yeah yeah i would be pissed too just watch sly's acting though his
30:16
non-verbal acting so good in this film in general agreed
30:22
wait know about that oh harry here's the soldier old harry here is a soldier he's got
30:27
like a two inch long hair it's like insane to me anyways well gold's balding he's jealous yeah
30:35
yeah slice baldwin yeah i know
30:40
i wasn't gonna go there but yeah i love sly he's my favorite you know film actor of all time but even in this film he's i
30:48
think this film he's starting to realize he's balding because he's got quite a lot of frilly action in the front right there yeah yeah
30:55
rambo john jay so there we go this is the first indication now in the book we never get
31:00
his first name oh really yeah it was written for the film so they did john as in johnny get
31:06
your gun that's why they call him john rambo and john g i forgot the j stands for i can look it up real quick i think
31:12
it's james maybe i'm not sure but um yes john jay ramble it was never stated in the book so mr morale wrote the book
31:19
never gave him a first name i really like how what's his name the guy on screen right now
31:25
yeah how he says the name i really like his delivery of that yeah it's almost
31:30
like a question john jay like almost like a question yeah i loved it it was great yeah well
31:36
yeah he chews up the scenery this guy you gotta talk to me i promise you're gonna talk to me
31:42
soldier starting to dislike you luck as he's speaking the ramble here so you
31:47
know you're going to talk to me soldier he's put the nightstick under his chin to make him look him in the face
31:54
while galt is talking to rambo and that's can you imagine having a nice stick under your chin how that would just feel
32:00
and how ramble right at this point just probably wants to take i wish he could have grabbed that isaac right now uh-huh and
32:05
caused some real damage in fact this would probably be the time to escape quite frankly grab the next actually
32:11
because now he's got a weapon in his hand and he could probably get out very easily compared to what happens later yeah he like shoves it upward as he's
32:18
got shoves the night stick upward into his the bottom of his chin almost almost in his throat
32:24
when he said a lot i'm starting to dislike you and then he like shoves it up as he says a lot i get like these are
32:31
these little little details are really making the movie better i think oh yeah oh yeah there's so much to and that's
32:37
what i love about kind of doing the scene by cena as we covered the film because the little moments of just that the
32:44
just even david crystal's eyes here looking as they are it's everyone just brings their a game to this film for
32:49
acting i'm gonna run a make on him put his name in the toe
32:56
did you put his name the teletype did he say i didn't catch it i'm not sure but he's almost like okay i don't really
33:02
want to be a part of this just like he's almost i just always feel like david cruz those characters are trying to be
33:08
helpful trying to deflect you know simmer down the heatedness yeah oh of
33:13
what's going on well you said yeah he's going to put it he's going to put his name whatever those early computers were at 82. so he's going to run his name to
33:19
see if he pops up anywhere previous arrests that sort of stuff that's what he's doing so he's grabbed the dog
33:24
tastes go take care of that i just roll it across now we go to this scene here and again back to david morales
33:30
interview that i did david morrell actually mentioned he really liked this part of the movie and he really liked
33:35
the acting that sly does here mentioning that sly's eyes in this scene were very good i know it's hard for audio
33:42
listeners but by all means people that are fans of the movie if you haven't you know you've seen the movie but we
33:47
know the part he's being forced to roll his fingers onto the paper to be fingerprinted to be put
33:53
into the system now david morrell just really liked the eye work that slide does
33:59
roll it across push it it won't work that way it'll only smear
34:05
and i'll run across look you son of a [ __ ] if you don't put your goddamn hand down there i'm gonna
34:11
break it off up down god damn it all right what the hell is going on down here
34:16
all right so a lot of interesting things are happening here so rambo's not cooperating he's not allowing his hand
34:22
to be fingerprinted because the cop is trying to fingerprint him i believe this is
34:28
this is ward okay now ward he's kind of a dick too do you
34:33
think yeah okay um if you said the name his face is very familiar he's been in a
34:38
lot of things and the name of the actor is escaping me his name is chris mulkey
34:43
is the actor's name no no no no ah let me look it up this is ward okay
34:49
the reason why i bring this up because ward is he himself was not very friendly to ramble either there's a
34:55
couple that are and but ward is one that was not so you can he now you can see he's oh yes you're right it is chris
35:02
mulkey yeah yeah i'm sorry i was thinking of someone else okay yeah no no worries he's you know telling again he's
35:08
frustrating he can't get round but the fingerprint right that's his job ramble's not cooperating it would be it
35:14
would be frustrating galt's there so you know you're going to do this properly or things are going to happen blah blah
35:19
blah so he smashes his night stick again onto the cabinet he hits the paper towels paper towels go flying and then
35:26
teasel comes down and says you know what's going on down here but what i kind of like about this teaser in his own way is still trying to run proper
35:31
facility down here and i don't think he's too happy or keen that galt
35:36
is letting this circus continue the way it is so diesel's like come on guys just process this guy why is this not
35:42
happening yeah i think teasel is still very much a professional in many ways he has his own issues with rambo but he still wants
35:48
this done properly and quickly here it's like what's going on what i love what's coming up next is watch stallone here a
35:54
ramble but i love he just casually grabs a paper towel starts wiping the ink off his fingers did you catch that
35:59
yeah i don't know why i love that moment it's just such a nice little moment where he he hasn't
36:05
yet been fingerprinted he he just starts casually wiping his fingers yeah
36:12
he won't let us bring him well on the hand it's almost like he's purposely trying
36:18
to continue he's in his own ways antagonizing back with these subtle little movements i kind of found this
36:23
odd too like why is he why is he resisting this so much okay so this is where the book is really important yes
36:30
rambo didn't do anything wrong as far as really like like the other day the old joke is he goes into town he's just
36:37
looking for a bite to eat had they let him eaten he would have gone to the next town he would have gone on his way he just wanted a bite to eat and that was
36:43
all he wanted as well in the book he just wanted he wanted a bite to eat and he actually did get a bite in the in the
36:48
book by the way but anyway so but he's been harassed as he's entered the town and the problem is is that he's actually
36:54
experienced this in other towns this isn't the first time okay like the 15th town he said in the book that he's been
36:59
harassed by law authority and he's always just yeah i'll go yeah i'll leave yep i will
37:05
so when he turns around remember when tesla drops him off and he turns around
37:10
well that was the thing he had a dialogue in his head the dialogue in his head was you could just let this go
37:16
you don't have to go back just let it go and then rambles have an inner dialogue with themselves saying no no i'm tired of this so he's actually
37:22
having a conversation with there's two rambles in his head there's the one who was the civilian rambo and then there's the ptsd rambo he
37:29
actually has this conversation he says andy goes no you want to make a game this you want to show them what you're capable of that's why you're doing this
37:37
so he allowed himself to be caught he allowed himself to be here he's kind of playing along here
37:42
he kind of wants to see how far he can go that is really helpful back story
37:49
if you don't read the book it does seem strange this is going to happen regardless rambo so just cooperate for
37:55
now it's that's in my head i'm like you're just going to make this worse for yourself but knowing that that was
38:01
on purpose like he's doing this on purposes well he allowed himself to get caught because he could have killed diesel right there at that on the bridge
38:08
he could have grabbed that gun way before teasel and shot him and he also said that he could have broken four
38:14
different places it mentions in the book to showing you just how and he is capable we know in the movies of course just how capable of a fighter he is he
38:20
allowed himself to get caught so this is of course but he could have killed him but that would be like an insane
38:26
response to being arrested like he's gonna kill him for what you know it's not like right he's threatening his life
38:32
that would be one thing but right now it's a bit of a game it's a bit of a game yeah but he's also being a bit of a martyr too because he's he's
38:39
getting pushed he's getting pushed he's getting pushed but he's also yeah we'll see he's gonna
38:45
just what is your break huh now listen hard ass as things stand right now you're facing the ass end of a
38:50
90-day incarceration plus a 250 fine which you don't look to me like you can pay
38:56
at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning you're going in front of that judge and you think we're tough now we're gonna make you a little bit
39:02
more presentable for your courtroom appearance between now and then you can just impress the hell out of me by doing
39:09
exactly as you're told and clean him up he's being cleaned up for this court
39:14
appearance that's what they did back then maybe not necessarily in the 80s i don't think what the idea is is they're
39:19
he stinks apparently he's not presentable they want him which is ironic because if you think about it
39:25
they're trying to clean them up for a court appearance which would make him look more innocent because yeah
39:30
if they want this guy you think we're tough this judge is way tougher and if they hate ramble so much you'd
39:35
almost think well we want to present him as an animal that he's dangerous but no it's like let's clean up us put a shirt and tie on the guy like it's just funny
39:42
how they're trying to make it more presentable it would actually would just actually help ramble's case
39:47
that's a really good point i also just wanted to comment on the dark-haired ward he looks so familiar
39:53
and when i looked him up he's been in a ton of things and he was in twin peaks tv show if anybody remembers that
40:01
oh yeah so anyway if anybody else recognized him from things
40:06
that was probably one of his biggest roles oh okay yeah yeah i haven't seen twin peaks but that would probably be
40:11
one of his bigger roles if that's the case yeah for sure right donald wants ramble to kill somebody with a paper towel
40:18
that seems hilarious donald that scene was so good between teasel and rambo with the paper towel rambo is as
40:25
teasel's trying to be so menacing rambo is not listening at all just
40:31
focusing on trying to clean his hands with the paper towel i love him he's like oh you're gonna clean me up great i was trying to get
40:36
the sink off anyways that's perfect so now we have a shot here of the jacket on the cot the cell caught because a
40:43
rambo is being disrobed for his uh shower all right preston
40:48
i want you to go over and get that hose ready all right holy [ __ ] look at this
40:55
what the hell's he been into who gives a [ __ ] oh all right put your hands on top of
41:01
your head and turn around all right so he's taking off his shirt of course and we see the back side of
41:07
ramble here scar almost sound like fresh looking some of them they're still red but he's got scar
41:13
tissue from being whipped cut lashed up and of course he's gonna have in this front as
41:18
well so they're seeing the front but we use an audience right now are just seeing the back and the idea of course is he's been through some torture and of
41:25
course mitch is like what what you know what what's happened to this guy gold's like they don't who cares yeah i mean
41:30
and then in the background that oh what's his name preston yeah preston's got the fire hose
41:37
and fire hose a freaking fire hose this is this blows
41:42
my mind and i'm really excited for this next part because oh we'll pause it don't
41:47
worry yeah look at how he's got his rocky iii body
41:53
he looks incredible like incredible it is his rocky through your body yes report this to teasel got look at that i
42:01
love how these [ __ ] they've got to report this what are you reporting the teaser the guy's got a lot of scars on him but yeah this is definitely a slime
42:07
moment here he's like yeah i got this body because it's the only time you see him shirtless really throughout the whole because he wears the sheepskin or
42:12
whatever for us the film but our guitar or tarpon yeah and he's sucking in i
42:17
love it like he's you know this is for the ladies but look at how like small his waist is
42:23
like he's he looks so good yeah he's pretending she's underneath the
42:28
screen right there right there that's [Laughter]
42:34
this party party at canadian studs it's partying canadian studs
42:40
hey anytime anytime rambo oh it's hilarious you just do what i tell you
42:48
oh god what is that yeah so he turns around as he's instructed gault just comes and it just hits him in the back
42:55
with the nicer that is gonna sting falls to the floor mitch is even like what the
43:00
[ __ ] are you doing yeah that's legit just pretty that's police brutality you cannot do that
43:06
yeah and he wasn't doing it he was following the orders so it was completely unprovoked uh siegel's in our
43:14
discord he just wanted to remind you or tell you katie spoiler that in the book uh rambo does escape the jail naked by
43:20
the way oh why didn't they do that in the movie
43:32
well the man said clean him up lean him up and so he kicks him again while rambo's down and it's all done off
43:39
screen which is kind of an interesting choice for directing that rambo does get hit he falls you know still owner slash
43:45
rambo falls off screen like underneath the frame and he's kicked as well while he's down
43:50
but it's interesting that they didn't cue him curled up in a ball or anything that it's just off-screen the violence in some ways or that kick i
43:57
found it interesting an interesting choice there to not show him on the floor in pain now ramble's being hosed down by a fire
44:04
hose now that's real water pressure being hit by a slide and i don't think it's quite the full effect of a fire yeah no but still
44:11
that's coming up pretty strong there sly as we know is a very physical actor he loves to kind of put himself in danger
44:16
and injure himself so he's getting hit with a fire hose all the same and i suspect it's a pretty
44:22
good pressure hitting them looks like it's hitting pretty good this cannot be their normal procedure can it i mean are
44:28
they doing this extra because they're pissed at rambo he could have a shower yes this was done as an abuse they have
44:35
a shower form a fire hose there's your uh mm-hmm
44:40
yeah yeah he just needs to turn around yeah
44:47
now we've got galt laughing he thinks is a big joke got this guy i don't know who this guy coming in behind he's laughing too puts
44:53
his hand on mitch's shoulder saying isn't this great is this hilarious but preston as you can see he doesn't look too keen on it he's been told to do it i
44:59
don't think he looks keen on it himself so i think it's hard his face is showing it's taking a lot of muscle and effort
45:06
to even hold the hose because it's such a strong pressure hey
45:12
don't forget to get in behind the ears [Music] so right there that look right there like he's hey preston don't forget to
45:19
get behind the ears he kind of looks at gold like are you serious he's an older gentleman himself but he's he's probably
45:24
like i got five years away from time but just so you know preston escapes all of rambo's wrath in the in the movie he
45:29
never gets hurt or injured during the breakout scene you don't quite see it but preston just runs away and you never he spared rambo's wrath
45:37
huh what's the matter mitch don't you like water sports
45:42
mitch walks away he can't watch and gull's like what's the matter mitch you don't like water sport mitch this whole time is just i don't
45:48
think it's disbelief i think it's just what did i get myself into working here so now they're bringing out the shaving
45:54
equipment we got the seat ready the hose is being put away by preston yeah the shave is about to happen did you
46:01
find again odd i need to come up with a synonym for that but he doesn't have handcuffs on does he they're gonna shave
46:09
him with the straight razor yeah he's never been handcuffed again he got unhandcuffed for the processing they
46:14
never put him back on he's shown that he is resisting and you're asking
46:20
to get cut yourself seemingly i just thought that was strange like why would they cut shave him with a straight razor
46:25
if he's not in handcuffs yeah i don't know all right hurry up it's time for my coffee break
46:32
all right sit down [Music] sit down
46:39
he's not sitting down he sees the razor blade he grabble now is like okay this is almost enough and now he with a nice
46:46
stick has been put behind his chest and neck by galt which of course brings him back to his time at prisoner of war
46:52
again that kind of crucifixion type posture with the arms behind the stick he's been dragged and pulled up which is
46:59
just gonna pull your shoulders almost i oh yeah this looks torturous for sure i love rambo's
47:06
camel pants that's cool i know i was gonna say i we match we have yeah he's got your pants you've got his shirt you
47:12
guys are perfect yeah we are a perfect couple
47:17
come on damn this boy it's hard to get ahold
47:25
that's okay warren don't worry about the soap he's tough just save him try all right gold just he's just escalating
47:32
everything ward is gonna put lather on his face and go so no no shave him dry you know he's tough
47:39
how blind he can't even galt cannot restrain him he's physically not able to restrain him
47:45
and he even says as much so he's like go ahead and shave him they have to know this is not going to end
47:51
well well even mitch just said i don't know if you caught that goes how blind are you guys oh yeah
47:58
that's okay warren don't worry about the soap he's tough just save him try all right
48:04
how blind are you can't you see this guy's crazy can't you see i don't give a [ __ ]
48:10
yeah of course mitch doesn't understand ptsd but he's like he's crazy but he's not crazy but he's suffering now yeah
48:16
he's got some mental health issues for sure but he is crazy in his own way but the idea is guys you're treating him
48:22
like he's sane to begin with there's something going on here we we need the professionals on this guy not the way
48:27
we're doing we're basically poking a fair line bear yeah yeah that's better
48:33
[Music]
48:46
okay so he sees the straight blade in front of him now he's having a flashback of course of the famous scene where this vietnamese
48:53
officer slices his chest one of the many scars that he now carries and that's all it's going to take
49:02
i don't want you to catch your own throat so that ward guy like that's what i mean he's gonna be right because he's like
49:07
taking it you know don't move i don't want you to cut your own throat it's a game to him too a little bit he should have just said hey i don't want to hurt
49:14
you which i would have said i would have been like i'm gonna lather him up gold gold if you want to shave him dry you go ahead well he can't it's his boss right
49:20
well that's what i mean but at the end of the day yeah it's i would say it's an unlawful order of course you're asking me to torture somebody yeah but you're
49:26
right he's playing along too so he's kind of guilty here as well ward
49:35
they filmed that well you could feel that pain oh yeah the blood commonal the cut yeah that's great yeah they hear
49:41
that scraping so they drew first blood this is it here we go rambo is the
49:46
character of rambo has now been created he's been unleashed the way you have it freezed his mouth
49:52
open like he's yelling or something like that is a classic stallone the stallone
49:57
yeah it looks like here he is yeah yeah with his crooked mouth yeah i love it
50:04
which we know was a birth defect because he was pulled out by a drunk doctor the forceps pulled on his face
50:15
now he does escape in the book and yes like sequel said in our discord he escapes nude
50:20
but galt in this part of the book just so you know you might be happy to hear this rabble takes the razor blade and
50:28
disembowels gold oh really oh okay
50:33
wow wow but that doesn't happen here so he kicks ward and the balls or it goes
50:39
down uh and then he then he like does like a sidekick into poor mitch's chest poor little mishka's flying and now he's
50:45
about to smash galton at the backside of the porcelain wall there of the shower
50:55
so mitch gets punched in the face again i you know mitch is not just doing his job he's trying to cuz you know they've got to constrain the guy regardless of
51:01
his feelings on how this has happened but now gold's come fighting he brings out his night stick let's go let's fight boy
51:13
[Music] what's crazy here is now you know he man handles gulp pretty easily strangles him
51:21
slams against the bars and he's about now had he not been interrupted by ward
51:26
he was going to put his fingers through the eyes of galtier yeah he's ready to go that's what i kind of like is they're
51:32
showing you yeah this is now rambo unleashed right this is what he'll do to you he will disembowel you he'll take
51:37
your eyes out he'll do whatever it takes to get out of the situation but war saves that from happening
51:55
now uh ward has been knocked out he was flipped and knocked out galty just punched out again i forget this guy's
52:00
name is coming down right now i think this is um i think his nose broke alfred or something no that's uh no yeah that's
52:07
one of the other guys this is lester oh okay celestia's about to comment now i think i'm wrong i i have to do the
52:14
trivia on this so maybe we'll correct myself the next episode but i think somebody actually did get their nose broken by stallone while filming yeah oh
52:20
really oh no sorry that wasn't uh i don't know who that guy's name is sorry this is the
52:26
guy that gets punched and thrown through the window the classic through the window scene the guy who got his nose broke was belford sorry lester and
52:33
lester lester but somebody got their nose broke for real wow
52:42
this is kind of a i love the sequence so teasel's heard of course the commotion right
52:47
and look at the shot here so tesla comes around the corner with his gun drawn which i i guess that's
52:52
fine he hears the commotion and rambo jumps on the top of the cell bars
52:58
and does like a flying type of i don't know gymnastic kick and teasel's gun goes off which is
53:04
interesting yeah which now alerts the rest of the station that hell gunshot which would be
53:10
pretty alarming yeah to have a gunshot go off at the police station whoa gunshot that's not common
53:22
so this guy's inadvertently so here's the gunshot this poor deputy is now open it's like what's
53:28
going on down there which is just basically unlock the door for rambo to come out of now i think this is the guy gets his
53:33
nose broke i'm sorry
53:40
oh it's another window guy there's two window guys
53:49
sorry i love that so this guy is just sitting at the desk and he actually says hey you can't and as he's about to
53:54
finish that sentence rapper just dropped you can't go around beating up everybody
53:59
you're not allowed to do that that's not allowed you you think this is funny [Music]
54:06
so he's able to grab his knife which is pretty clever so okay i'm glad that i saw this because i remember when i watched when i just like watched the
54:12
movie i didn't recall seeing him get it and then i was confused later when he had it it was on galt's desk still from
54:19
the uh cutting the paper sequence yeah that's super secure yep
54:26
all right sorry now this guy i keep i'm they all look the same with their this is my stash
54:32
this is deputy lester okay he gets kind of dropped kicked on like some sort of mma fighting movie
54:40
and then he elbows him in the face which breaks his nose that's the guy that you were referring
54:46
to it would kind of make sense because he did elbow him in the face i just swear somebody got their nose broke yeah
54:53
maybe all right so sylvester stallone accidentally broke the nose of yeah it was that guy alf humphreys who plays
54:59
lester so sylvester stallone actually broke the nose of elf humphries who played lester during the jail escape
55:05
scene by elbowing him in the face which is why he is seen wearing a band-aid throughout the rest of the film
55:11
coincidentally this is what roundwood does to a policeman in the novel during the exact same scene alf you don't hear
55:16
that name ever is that weird yeah his name is elf humphreys elf so yeah that kind of threw me off so he really broke
55:22
that actor's nose let's go back and see that elbow which is unfortunate because you don't see his face yeah you don't
55:28
see his face really get hit [Music]
55:37
right there oh you do i guess yeah oh that was it did look pretty realistic
55:42
have you ever had your nose broken no 46 years never had my nose pulled
55:49
i feel like that would hurt so bad to have your nose
55:54
yeah now in the book i believe preston i believe it's one of those guys so preston the
56:00
movie gets away but in the book one of the deputies in the book like like that tribute saying was right his nose gets
56:05
punched by ramble and smash and all the cartilage goes inside of his face and it kills him he smashes his face like open
56:12
and he kills him on the spot oh yeah [Music]
56:18
so the actor is really in pain there on the floor maybe yeah keep it in the film guys keep it
56:24
the film that's good that's good all right so we're going to stop it there because that is the next episode
56:32
will be his he's now escaped at the concrete jungle and he doesn't have a coat he's in a tank top yeah he's
56:38
wearing his tank top here and his little jeans and he's got the knife into the front of his belt and i love how you got these people on the side of the street
56:44
watching this action sequence now granted it's civilians around the world but you know these people are here like
56:50
that old guy there right there behind the mailbox there's no way he he just happened to be getting the mail that day
56:57
i don't think they close the street i think hope british columbia where this was filmed it's such a small enough town that they could just have the film going
57:03
that's pretty cool look at the way they're standing there they almost look like they're just watching the film being filmed
57:08
yeah maybe sorry i just i want to keep watching i want to keep watching the film we got to stop okay i know i know all right so we
