welcome to another episode of It's a long road the Rambo series podcast I'm your host Ryan and with me today I'm
0:38
very excited to have a couple special guests from the no redeeming qualities podcast Bob and zip we'll start with you
0:45
Bob how you doing and welcome to the show hey what's happening oh dude I'm
0:52
good I'm hot as [ __ ] it's wait am I not supposed to swear on this one do what you want yes I zip Bob and I actually
0:59
had an argument about this earlier this week did we ever do the Rocky Going the Distance uh yes you did I don't think we
1:05
did yeah you dummy we did I think so it's been a while but I think you guys were on at least once if not twice I
1:12
will it's been a long road it's been a long road and we've and we're going to go to the distance with the with the ramble series as well well plug your
1:20
show then I'll say where I also fit into your show in your network yeah plug your well we're we host the no redeeming
1:25
qualities podcast it's a comedy show it comes out every Wednesday morning and uh we are a writing Duo so it it's more
1:33
than just us talking about things it's you know we actually do have prepared bits and all that and uh we do scripted
1:40
material and we have kind of a greater Collective that we call gamma Gator that's got a bunch of different
1:46
podcasters on it and Ryan's on that from a diff his other show the worst of the best I don't know if we're allowed to
1:52
talk about his other shows on here that's like your other family you know it's like when you have half siblings
1:57
and it's like you can't talk about certain parents with the other kids are a router is that anyway we have a a two
2:02
hosted ComEd podcast series called no redeeming qualities it's ridiculous and
2:08
filthy and disgusting it's everything that Ryan is not and somehow we sucked
2:13
him into our orbit and he does a show for us now we love working with you Ryan very much even though it can be
2:19
challenging because you are so clean which yes this is a G-rated show correct or is it too late for that it's a ging
2:26
my best here it's no it's not G-rated it's I mean we are talking about first blood but uh it's not completely G-rated
2:34
it's c-rated for Canadian sensibilities oh there you
2:41
go I do have to say the only thing I disagree with Ryan was when you led that Convoy down to Ottawa with those
2:46
truckers that was that was a bit much that was a bit much that was not there's other ways to get you I know you're
2:52
frustrated but there's other ways for you to get your message out there that was not me we know it wasn't you right
2:58
I'm glad you guys have decided to to come on the show and I really appreciate you being here before we start reviewing
3:04
the film I want to start with you Bob what is your history or fandom of First Blood the film Andor Rambo and Stallone
3:12
when I was a kid I was obsessed with Rocky and Stallone because I grew up an Italian kid and I idolized the [ __ ] out
3:18
of him I wanted to be a boxer for a long time and I did it for a little bit and so I watched Rocky like crazy I had the
3:23
VHS box set I just found my VHS box set of Rocky after that I was like well I
3:29
got to watch everything he's ever done so obviously I started with Demolition Man uh no then I went for I went for uh
3:37
Rambo all I wanted to see was the scene with him killing the pig for some reason
3:44
I think it was cuz I saw a sketch of Tracy Morgan like harassing Stallone on
3:50
Saturday Night Live and just only asking him to do like Rambo bits and he was like when you killed that pig
3:58
raino you better than gummy damn it wait till I tell my wife I saw
4:05
raino oh man yo I love when you jumped out that tree and cut that pig oh really
4:12
was thank you took me a while but uh rainbow First Blood Part 2 is my favorite by far well no wait no I forgot
4:19
there's the other sequels because then it gets filthy and just chunks of meat flying everywhere and so yeah I grew up
4:27
raised kind of by a Rambo uh like a disgruntled Vietnam veteran uh we were a
4:33
very like sympathetic to Rambo household my dad actually like would tell me the first Blood story as like a bedtime
4:40
story he did that with all kinds of movies which I think was just his way of
4:45
keeping himself entertained so uh easy rer was another I say Up and Smoke was one up and smoke and Easy Rider were
4:53
other ones that he converted into night long bedtime stories it was actually kind of it was awesome but anyway so
4:59
that was like my first exposure to it I read the book at a really early age BEC
5:04
I was in like fourth or fifth grade when I read the book cuz my dad had it and I you know I love the movies I I really
5:09
loved first blood as like a good movie and then First Blood Part Two as this
5:16
over-the-top amazing action film and then we weren't allowed to watch Rambo 3 after 911 so I haven't seen that one in
5:22
a long time we were seniors in high school about to graduate when Rambo 4
5:28
came out which was it's just called John Rambo righto just called it's just Rambo
5:33
we went and saw it together we were just howling with laughter because it was so
5:39
did we go into it knowing it was going to be that violent I mean we just knew it was going to be Rambo killing people
5:45
yeah when we went in we didn't know it was going to be like that the meat chugs flying and the just incredible hyper
5:52
violence I read first Blood just by chance like a week before you started
5:57
this new show like I just just happened to have read it and then zip was like you know he brought the morel or
6:04
whatever on the show for the first episode of this like this week I was like shut shut your effing M
6:11
hole so it's definitely like an airport book or like a dad on a dock book it's
6:18
not oh he's not trying to win like a I don't think but yeah better than Tom
6:26
Clancy is a virtual Wonderland phenomenal violent yes it
6:32
is comments on this if you go to the live discussion there are people live
6:38
commenting it had been so long since I read the book that I misremembered that he doesn't kill himself at the end of
6:43
the book that's the deleted scene yeah you told me that he killed himself I was expecting it the whole time I was mixing
6:51
because I remember like I said I read that book like 20 years ago and then there's the deleted scene of Rambo
6:56
killing himself in the movie one of the alternative endings had to be how I got that mixed up so it been a while but and
7:02
then Rambo 5 came out and that that's recent enough that I actually was on the
7:07
rocky show with you to talk about that when it came out in theaters pre-co I actually really enjoyed last Blood I
7:14
thought it would have benefited from having him like concretely be dead other than that well they always have to leave
7:20
the door open for a sequel they just have it's moneyone the load just has to get to a point where it's like look you
7:25
really stretch this thing out to five arcs would it really already kind of had a three Arc thing going you're physically old stallo himself is I don't
7:34
I mean KN on wood he's no spring chicken he's not going to be here forever so it's like he needs HGH he needed that
7:40
HGH uh that's the other thing in the book in the book is Rambo super muscular like that no no is he he's just a kid
7:48
he's actually like a very young kid too in the book he's younger in it I mean he's a special forces guy like he's a a
7:55
Green Beret or whatever but he also talks about he's like well no his version of slowing down as like a Green
8:01
Beret 6 months out of Vietnam I think he needs to do a rainow six and it's him having to go back and fight the mujahed
8:09
that he set up and put in place if you made a Rambo six you already called it
8:14
last blood so you're really you are starting to really box yourself into a corner with these titles you called it
8:19
last Blood exactly what is he going to do at the end of the movie that he could
8:24
barely walk anymore it is the last film I think we actually have more of a chance to get into a Rocky film than a ramble
8:30
film that needs to stop too you
8:36
know so I don't think we're GNA get either I actually don't think we're g to get either last Blood Part Two
8:43
I this whole series should make no sense says Rambo six down to the last
8:51
drop to the last good good to the last drop and it's him like a in a hospital I
8:58
got first Blood transfusion there you go and the thing is is John Rambo
9:05
doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who had children there's no Rambo Jr that would be absolutely the silliest thing
9:12
that ever happened would be if they made a new story where it's John Rambo Jr but it's the exact same thing except he was
9:19
like in Iraq or something and then he comes home to the same town in Washington you know Rambo is essentially
9:26
Frank Castle just doesn't go nuts and get his family murdered right he's just an Italian man from special forces that
9:33
came out of Vietnam and his life is dog [ __ ] afterwards that's who he is STO is
9:39
essentially a writhing mass of veins and papier-mâché skin now he would collapse
9:44
did you know Bobby that they originally considered Robert dairo and Clint Eastwood to be John Rambo I get it Bobby
9:51
dairo wouldn't be bad but I think the problem I'd see with Robert dairo would be this I just feel like I'm watching
9:56
taxi driver in the woods that's all I would that would be my problem Robert dairo and then Clint Eastwood I guess I
10:02
can't imagine Clint Eastwood not being you know how old he was by then he was like in his 40s well in real life Clint
10:09
Eastwood was a Korean War veteran so if he was doing that he would have been way too old I always imagine Clint Eastwood
10:15
in like positions of authority so it's I guess it's hard for me to imagine Clines would like on the run from the cops cuz
10:21
I just imagine Clines would would his version of Rambo would be dirty hairy just giving dirty looks and my
10:27
girlfriend had never seen young Clint East I had to show her a photo of him in The Good the Bad and the Ugly which is
10:32
not young Clint Eastwood even not even young Clint Eastwood that's just like grown man Clint Eastwood yeah so have
10:37
you ever seen a picture of young Don knot that'll mess with your brain shut up what like yeah Don knot was a
10:44
22-year-old at one point in his life but he just always looked he didn't deserve it but he
10:52
was if Don knots had been the sheriff at first bullet that would have been a whole different vibe no that's okay I'm
10:58
looking up D Don kns I'm sorry I mean he looks like he's made out of rubber so
11:04
that's what I'm saying he looks people just looked older back then this true let's let Ryan take over from D KN talk
11:11
every time every time you guess on my show if you listen to the other episodes where you guys have come on I'm just sitting back and I like to listen to you
11:16
guys cuz I actually listen to your show as you know and so I feel like I just get a live performance of your podcast when you're on my show I love it you
11:22
guys are great but we are going to move into if you're ready cuz I'm sure more comics are going to come up we're going to move into some of the film sound more
11:28
insincere like it's great I love it I do you know I do you stop it guys you know
11:34
I love you guys stop it okay what do you got for us Ryan okay
11:40
you both have seen the film I'm sure more than once anyways and we're going to watch the part right now that we are
11:45
now in the film for this episode we just uh finished with the previous episode of Rambo escaping the mind you know that
11:52
was when the Bazooka guys the National Guard blows up the mind with the Bazooka bull give that man a seagar and all that
11:59
stuff yeah so I hate when people pronounce cigars cigar cigar yeah there you go uhhuh it
12:06
it was kind of silly this the last sequence was John ramble going through the Min shaft he comes out that's where we're at right now he's escaped the Min
12:13
shaft and uh he is not dead will teasel Sheriff will teasel thinks he's dead colel troutman's pretty certain he's not
12:19
without a body and that's where we are in the story so here we go they replaced the bats with rats in the movie right
12:26
yes right correct okay yeah just second okay here we go oh
12:35
yeah get him Rambo kill those Law Enforcement Officers I think that's the National
12:41
Guard you're right he does he has to comment that's you get for serving your [Music]
12:49
community get him back in the Glory Days when you could you like mylap
12:54
sack all right so okay
13:00
sorry did we just watch the whole movie in Mystery Science it I want you guys to comment
13:08
no I didn't know that first blood was only 93 minutes long that's
13:15
tight movies that are over a 100 minutes long get over yourself I want you guys to comment with Happ but keep in mind
13:22
there's a there's an audio version of this too so we have to explain kind of what's happened here so and then you got yeah okay oh you're right okay for our
13:29
audio listeners what's just happened of course is Rambo has escaped the M shaft and he's now gone through the fors he
13:36
sees the National Guard right uh leaving the site because right now they think the thread is over so they're packing up and they're going home John Rambo jumps
13:43
on a on a convoy truck or a 4ton or sorry 6ton vehicle jumps on the back of
13:48
the truck great little stunt work there ramble gets into the uh the driver pulls out his knife to the driver's throw and
13:54
says drive he says I can't go back to the mine no we just I like how you know
14:01
the difference between the four and the 6 ton trucks and you made sure that we knew too that's a little knowledge I
14:06
know Sly said here that there's a part right where the character says and it is a kind of an out of character a weird
14:11
moment and Sly hates it he says if he could go back and take it out he would yeah let's see don't look at me look at
14:17
the road that's how accidents happened that part right there that was interesting I think he was legitimately
14:24
concerned for his own safety like he wasn't speaking as John Rambo he was speaking as Stallone the movie producer
14:32
you watch the road yeah it a little bit too yeah it seems more Stallone 1982
14:38
Stallone than the character of ramb it's like cobra where he's cutting slices of pizza like hey speaking of that cutting
14:45
the pizza I want to say that's actually something they do in Italy that wasn't just a CTI thing that's an Italian thing
14:51
in Italy they cut pizza with scissors they do use scissors yes say Bobby you're an Italian citizen is that
14:58
actually a thing I mean most of the time people get their own pizzas cuz they're different there
15:04
like the size they so you're sitting there with a fork and a knife a lot of the time yeah some of them do it is more
15:10
economical and easier to do than using a [ __ ] a roller that like doesn't cut the
15:15
pizza so you have to roll it a 100 times and still tear your pizza in half uh Pizza talk I I do have to say I do love
15:22
that this is a bygone era of American freedom because that's a military man
15:27
smoking a cigarette a government vehicle while he's operating wait you're telling me you couldn't do that zip you haven't
15:33
been able to smoke in a I mean if you were like in the middle of nowhere and nobody was going to enforce it yeah but
15:39
I'm just saying in general you haven't been able to smoke in a government vehicle in a long ass time people smoke in my city Vehicles all the time it's
15:47
not the same thing as the I know it's not I'm just say yeah I'm honestly
15:52
surprised you say people for the city will smoke in those cuz I know that they're so anal about anything with
15:57
cigarettes anymore old pieces of trash smoking if this gsman wasn't busy smoking a cigarette he'd have been
16:05
prepar if this was the book version of Rambo Rambo would have just stabbed him to death yeah and not said anything I
16:12
will say he is more ripped in this one than I remember cuz I know that every says like in the second one is when he
16:17
really gets shredded but he's he's freaking jacked in this so this is Rocky
16:24
3 Stallone so this is very Stallone here yeah in fact Stallone was at his lowest
16:30
weight in this film of his whole career in this film he still gets more shredded
16:36
and more oily in the second one well in the second one he's more shredded because he spent all that time having to
16:41
break rocks in prison and he's oily because you know he's in southeast Asia there's a lot of sun you know he's got
16:47
to you know got to have a sun lotion on why did they break rocks it wasn't an actual Quarry was it back in the day
16:54
like the rock breaker I think I think historically it's supposed to be that you're breaking it for like Corey
16:59
purposes you're not just wasting time you'd eventually run out of rocks right after like a couple weeks got to get
17:06
more rocks ship out more rocks for these guys to beat with hammers look at this dude's face the
17:12
driver I mean I would be too if I was to get gutted by Rambo I was about to say
17:19
this guy's probably like works at a propan place in his local town and he's just a Guardsman on the weekends now
17:26
he's about to yeah these These are the guards guard to death what would you do in a
17:34
Rambo situation if you're the one driving the truck for the Canadian military is there a Canadian Rambo
17:40
Canadian Rambo you just cut to him and he's like at their equivalent of the VA being taken care of so receiving mental
17:48
health benit getting getting get getting getting mental health uh therapy and then uh being put in a jobs program so
17:56
he could be a contributing member of society unlike here where they they throw you out the garbage the moment you're uh of no longer of any use anyway
18:03
his family was probably put in a concentration camp you know they did that in Canada they put the Italians in
18:08
concentration camps they should they should still do that I think
18:14
like you know we don't know maybe you're still loyal to Italy what do I know I har sentiments musolini we can't risk
18:23
all these Italian sleeper agents possibly that's the that's also the funniest a of like a conspiracy
18:30
involving Italians like what are you all going to do they could barely run their own government hasn't there been like a
18:35
new government since musini like every four and a half years in Italy or something like that it's different it's
18:40
like in a lot of different countries where they have the Coalition governments that they have to like redecide on [ __ ] did you know the
18:46
Italian like military is essentially the predecessor to the Navy SEAL they created the elite Frogman units using
18:53
like I I did know that but I also know that Ryan wants to kill both of us with hammers right now
18:59
cuz we've literally clicked all of 5 Seconds of what we're supposed to that's fine that's I'm on no timeable
19:07
if you watch pro wrestling you know an episode of Monday Night Raw is three hours long with commercials and you'll
19:13
go on YouTube and there's the guys like Jack Russell fan whatever and his reaction synopsis is like 4 and a half
19:19
hours long and I'm like how did that happen this is how that happen that's how it Happ is because people like us
19:25
but anyway okay we'll see how the plays out I think he's going to kill this guy I think he's dead no he doesn't kill
19:31
anybody in this damn movie K cart Robert a all right what you
19:36
got in the back Rober day [Music]
19:42
M60 okay Rober day get out of the truck I got no beef with you go on move go
19:47
[Music] [Applause]
19:53
home look like deis NRI [Music]
19:58
all right so John ramble throws Robert a out of the truck I love he calls him Robert a like his middle initial a I
20:05
know I thought that was goofy as hell too Robert a get a move on I always wonder about in movies I wonder about
20:13
this guy like how long he's he got to walk home it's going to take him two hours of walking to get back to his base
20:20
his commanding officers and all them probably infuriated he's not that far well I also think about what if his
20:26
rifle was still at that truck his life might will be over if he lost well the service rifle yeah like this guy's day
20:33
is about to get way worse cuz you just let him push you out of the truck real nice yeah you didn't just let
20:41
him stab you to death to defend our government property you know I think about that when I think about all the
20:46
just how bad his life's going to be for the rest of the time that he's in the National Guard he'll be like I got to use the restroom two years from now
20:52
there'll be at a drill he's like I'm going to go use a restroom and they're like oh Robert a are you sure are you sure you're not going to get hijacked by
20:57
rabo and you know our guns give M60 all the V
21:03
yeah anyway sorry Robert [Music]
21:10
a he should have been an actual pig in a police uniform like Duke nuk them this
21:16
is back when cop cars literally were just like old mobiles and that's it okay
21:21
so what's just happened there for audio listeners so Robert a got chucked out of the truck I'm not just so you guys know when
21:28
I I repeat what the synopsis of the film is it's not a criticism on you guys i' doing people our itun listeners know
21:36
what the hell is going on around here okay Robert a has been thrown out the truck he's running down the road like
21:42
you said zip it would have taken him a long time but lucky for him a police cruiser came in and happened to see him running on the road it was a a trooper
21:49
and making the radio call right now we're going so what the scene is now is we're going to hear the radio call from
21:54
that troop where picked up the uh Soldier SP car1 Charlie f the central so he's about to make the announcement that
22:00
John Rambo is alive and well and he's commandeered a an army truck and when you watch this scene watch will teasel
22:07
the acting by Brian Den yeah yeah the way will teasel just stands up when he finds out that Rambo's alive I just love
22:13
that moment the way he just stands up because at this point they think he died in the shaft in the M shaft right
22:22
okay what's your story Steamboat looks like somebody pulled the plug too soon that Rambo guy he's on the
22:30
loose again [ __ ] Rog your Steamboat this is Trapper we're setting up roadblocks on Highway 26 hey Will it it's Rambo
22:37
he's still around there's an Italian loose in the woods so there you go I just love that
22:43
moment when he says ramble is still around then he just stands up there he's realizing his his career is over and
22:50
he's terrible at his job like well time to go die now
22:56
that's time to go fall through the roof of a building he doesn't die not he does
23:01
he not in this one no oh he get taken away he gets taken away in a Stretcher with an IV and he Mak contact with Rambo
23:09
when he's get taken to the ambulance when Rambo's taken out the handcuffs the only character that dies in this film is g Who falls out of the helicopter
23:16
there's only one guy that dies yeah this movie is good don't get me wrong but the body count should have been higher but
23:22
if the body count was higher then Rambo's not a sympathetic character exactly he is in the book not really I
23:29
always just considered him more like a wild animal in the book he is yeah the book he's crazy he's actually
23:36
not sympathetic at all I think he only gar sympathy in the book because we draw our experience from the movies that is a
23:42
distinct possibility the book version of Rambo it implies that he's having a hard time differentiating between reality and
23:49
and fantasy that's the level of mentally ill he's at he doesn't say you drew
23:55
first blood in the book really no I was waiting for it the whole time is Rambo
24:00
an Italian name it can be yeah it's not very I was going to say just so you know it's actually named after a type of
24:07
apple uh David morale when his wife brought home some Apple the Apple name was Rambo the type he does say that he
24:14
said it in the intro to the book yeah there you go you did it babe you saved my
24:20
book these Len Rambo is much
24:26
better I want to ask him did you run through other Apple names too like John pink
24:31
lady John Granny Smith John red delicious now now a movie with John red
24:39
delicious that's a whole different movie that's a Boogie Nights kind of movie John are delicious that I'm gonna
24:46
like that's that's awesome that's going in the next script and then he only wears candy red apple suits look real
24:54
anyway [Music]
25:02
all right so rambl now driveing the truck and police are in [Music]
25:17
Pursuit that truck need to be so big if there's no people in it like what I kind of like here is car
25:24
ammo yeah it's got ammo and gear in there but you're right there there probably not very much in there what I actually kind of like about the scene
25:30
They Don't Really spell it out for you but Rambo isn't accelerating crazy or leaving he's taking over like the truck
25:36
but the people in the truck in front of him don't know that it's been T so he's just quietly trying to leave but the
25:42
cop's been informed so that's why the cop is now chasing the trucks like there's a possibility if he had gotten on the roads the right way that he would
25:48
have just calmly driven that vehicle all the way oh yeah that was his goal that was his goal was that was his goal yeah
25:56
his goal was just to quietly leave again not to bring back the book but again that's another difference right he keeps
26:02
fighting in the book he doesn't make an effort to flee no it goes back and forth half the time he's trying to like go
26:08
through the appal agans like on a motorcycle and then halfway through he gets so angry that he goes into like a
26:14
you know a murder trance and then he'll snap out of it and be like I got to leave yeah more like a mentally ill
26:19
person's he gets into like a murder rage a couple of times in between trying to escape to Mexico don't we
26:26
all I don't know Ryan keeps himself so [Music]
26:35
composed some good driving scenes you know that the drivers in the
26:40
front the army people had to be like hey does the guy in the back not got a shirt on I thought he was shirtless cuz I was
26:47
like that raas I'd be like wait hey guy in the back of the Convoy put a
26:52
[Music] shirt just shoot your revolvers I love that everybody just
26:59
took their revolvers out and just sh casually into the truck oh here you go
27:04
it's a tricky situ I'm not a cop and one of my co-host from another show Doug greenbird he might be able to talk about this but you got a guy civilian in an
27:11
army truck and you have the local police just basically shooting at the vehicle at this point the vehicle isn't doing
27:17
anything dangerous per se like it is a car chase yes they have to Comer the vehicle but you would think they would
27:24
just try to maybe stop the vehicle with their they have those tapping techniques they do you know where they hit the back of the vehicle and it spins or whatever
27:32
right but just to arbitrarily start to wave your gun out the window and start shooting it is kind of silly that it's
27:38
it's bable revolvers where they were like all right we're close enough everyone do it the other guys leaning
27:43
over the other guys like let me get my gun out well I guess to be fair they did try
27:48
to blow him up with the Bazooka so at this point they they really don't care about him being alive they actually
27:53
would have just preferred if he was dead it'd be a lot easier that's that's what d he wanted
28:00
[Music] yep but it does funny had two differents
28:05
coming
28:12
up let's say do you really think the cop car is going to beat the physics isn't on your side
28:19
with that one there if you're in that cop car right the six ton vehicle going against
28:25
maybe a ton so the the mass physics of the truck is going to overpower that car for sure is that a metric or a standard
28:33
ton it's 2,000 lb for you Americans one
28:39
time go ahead basically one of Italian Bob's uh you know grocery weeks you know
28:45
so get the [ __ ] out was that your attempt at a mean joke you piece of [ __ ]
28:51
who thousand pounds of groceries that's that's a large man
28:58
hey do you do you swear at the recruits or are you polite while berating them I
29:04
swear there you go that's what I wanted to hear all right I wish you guys could
29:10
see me with the recruits it's a different Ry I do I wish I could see it too yeah that's why you don't swear in
29:15
your normal life you get it all out you're sweared out I wanted to say those who are listening who aren't watching
29:22
this maybe on YouTube or on Discord right now just so you know the name that Bob chose for himself that he chose his
29:29
big Italian Bob so come on you don't have to apologize Ryan really stick it
29:35
in that's how you do it Bob the idea of an Italian just being so open about
29:41
their italianness just enrages Ryan he do not think y'all should be allowed to talk about it he doesn't think y'all
29:47
should have your own schools he doesn't think yeah I bet you like pasta though
29:52
huh Ryan I bet you sit down eat a big old plate of spaghetti I don't I don't eat carbs no carbs alive you get out of
29:59
here why are you miserable you take you took it a step further because if you would have been like I don't eat pasta
30:05
i''d be like you're a liar and you're like I don't need carbs my body runs a certain way I don't need carbohydrates
30:10
it's why he looks like he's our age when he's actually 67
30:16
like this there like a picture if I were to
30:21
join the Canadian military am I if I were looking there's like a picture from 1920 and it's you in like a military un
30:29
the Stanley Hotel yeah anyway back to the
30:36
[Applause] [Music] film oh no
30:44
I'm hitting the car certain way now watch this stunt I love look
30:52
at okay before we get I do love the camera work on s's face is he's trying to yes he does a great job in the film
30:59
overall Sly with his physical acting it does a very but this sequence here of him concentrating and trying to figure
31:05
out in his mind he's calculating what's the best way I can get rid of this cop car it is kind of a funny concentration
31:11
phase that he has yeah his eyeballs flicking from left or right that's goofy looking well he's calculating right he's
31:16
calculating the speed he's going what he has to do to get rid of these cops and I think we have to assume the cops don't
31:22
die cuz we don't officially see if they're alive or dead after this accident but officially only one person
31:28
is dead in this film I think this is just a car accident but the guys don't die in the car we just never see them
31:33
again but the dogs don't fall off the cliff in this one right no they get stabbed they get shot and stabbed by the
31:39
ramble character in the film I can't tell if that's worse or better the book right he he throws the dogs off a cliff
31:46
alive right he LS them off of a cliff and then that's what teasel's older Mentor guy is bleeding out and then he
31:53
gets stucked into like a Mudslide and drowns it's
31:58
he's just he's just picking people off with the rifle too he's just murdering dogs and people and everything so
32:06
yeah oh
32:11
damn so it's a pretty big explosion You could argue those cops may have died in
32:17
that oh yeah oh yeah I think there's a very good chance that people are dead oh
32:22
no wait there's a scene after this where then the sheriff pulls him out and they go oh thank God I didn't die in that car explosion thank goodness
32:31
unscathed thank God Rambo's such a nice guy now I do love the sequence here I I
32:37
love the music score this is just me geeking out and uh I love this music score by Jerry Goldsmith and it's a
32:43
great moment here where the truck plows through the police block and another
32:48
great practical stunt of this truck and it's going over these vehicles and one of my friends dad was actually watched
32:54
this live when it happened during the filming there's there were yeah there were spectators in the local area of
32:59
course watching the stunt happen while you watch it just listen to the score change I love it it changes when he breaks free and it kind of has this
33:06
heroic type sound to the score change uh as he breaks free from the blockade it's a fun little sequence
33:11
[Music]
33:29
wait I got ice cream melted in the back oh that is
33:36
cool I love that score change but when that truck hits that vehicle we play it again I want to see it again okay sure
33:43
that's a legit stunt there's no CGI that's a truck bouncing over cars and I
33:49
love the camera inside the truck there's a camera work inside the truck where you see this the truck bounce
33:56
[Music]
34:06
oh yeah just four in half oh man that music is really great it reminds me of
34:11
the RoboCop theme song Good correlation yeah I don't think it's the same I don't think Jerry go did the RoboCop theme uh
34:18
maybe somebody in their Discord can uh look that up great poll there so Jerry gold smith incredible composer I wanted
34:24
to ask you guys though what are your thoughts on Den he as Will teasel C and out of his nor like you know what
34:29
actually no I have no idea what his normal character acting was like because all I think of is him as the dad and
34:35
Tommy Boy so I've got an uncle who looks and talks
34:40
exactly like him so that's always what I think about I think yeah he does a really good job of being a convincing
34:46
small town sheriff antagonist but not full-blown antagonist where it's like you know you could tell the story is
34:53
obviously trying to get you to sympathize for one character over the other yeah I think just a very realistic
34:59
portrayal of somebody allowing their emotions to ruin their judgment on something like this cuz he makes a ton
35:06
of bad decisions when it comes to handling this Rambo uh issue yeah like I
35:11
can't remember if uh Den was like Leslie neelson or Ed O'Neal where they played like badasses before they got in these
35:17
like major comedic roles I don't know if like the casting is weird for the time or if it was cool but I think it movie
35:24
was he famous for as a younger person he yeah that's what I'm saying I don't know
35:29
I don't know I feel like there is though I feel like there is some movie he wasn't the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy
35:35
guy was he no uh that was freaking ah gosh dang it b nine I think oh yeah okay
35:42
you're right yeah that's the only thing I want to do as a cop is be just the one they call to
35:49
just shoot at a car at a be like a blockade like that no real skill involved yeah this transition here it's
35:56
kind of weird because it's pretty much daylight when he went through that police blockade I so I guess we just have to assume time has passed from the
36:03
time that he escaped from the woods to now town now because it's really dark out but granted in the winter time and
36:10
here of course in the Pacific Northwest for real it'll be 4:30 it'll be daylight
36:15
then by 5:20 it's dark so yeah I forgot it's in the Pacific Northwest in this not Kentucky okay that's right in the
36:23
book that's where it is yet
36:29
think I can fit this thing in a [Music] Drive-Thru that was what I was most surprised about in the book like how
36:35
cheap the hamburger oh my God ramble know he's so mad at the gas
36:41
prices he just drives through the park I was making like an inflation joke
36:48
I was like yeah the hamburgers in that book were so cheap anyway the book is where I learned the phrase what does he
36:54
say about the burger where he's like take the burger and run it through your garden or something like that yes yeah drag it through the garden drag it
37:01
through the garden of all the things to remember in a book that I read in 1999 that one of the lines I remember so
37:07
funny cuz I noticed that too and was like what the hell is that why did he run over those gas pumps okay so I was
37:13
going to ask see why you'll see why keep going okay then yeah play it and let's see if I'm thinking of what I'm thinking of yeah so he broke through the pumps
37:20
for a reason one CU it looks oh yeah cuz he starts off he starts yeah CU it's dop
37:25
yeah cuz now they spraying everywhere y it was intentional bu free gas all I
37:31
ever think of when somebody runs through gas pumps is that scene in the stand like the book where he's like turn off
37:37
the pumps Dale turn off the pumps oh [ __ ] he's got the
37:44
M60 why you oh never mind you're just run yeah this bird's got to
37:50
fly this is again another great practical like explosion no CGI here
37:56
this is real I just don't know where in town they did
38:02
this that's cool oh damn oh sh damn hey my cigarettes were
38:10
in there Dam fire spin out the way it is
38:20
oh that's a really good practical explosion is that maybe like a tiny gas
38:26
station no that's actually that's the real deal look at the Flames that were coming out
38:31
of the the ground oh I see what you're saying okay yeah no that was real they'll build like a little set and blow
38:36
it up yeah Miniatures that was real I watched a movie called night breed last
38:43
night which I don't know if either of y'all heard of it that was when Clive Barker after writing and then directing hell Razer and it being so successful he
38:50
got to do a movie called night breed where they were like do whatever you want and the studio did not realize what
38:56
they had gotten themselves into and he immediately told like the effects crew to make 200 individual monsters they put
39:02
a director's cut together and I watched it last night on last drivein and they have massive explosions at the end of
39:09
that movie for maybe 10 or 15 minutes and at one point they throw a whole car
39:15
through the roof of like a studio like the full studio and Pinewood anyway point is I was just like they don't do
39:23
real explosions anymore in anything right it's like so
39:28
have they lost like the technique and knowledge of how to do those massive explosions where they blow up like a
39:34
whole town I think that's with a lot like puppetry is the same way a lot of those practical all that just if you
39:41
don't have people if movies aren't using it you don't have people learning it to do it they're the knowledge is going to
39:47
die out with them meu and Riot are G to make our own Kickstarter and we're going to make our own movie
39:54
that's exploding okay in book he goes full
39:59
scorched Earth on the town and that's what blew me away was he literally lights up not just one gas station like
40:06
four or five in the town and then blows up the city hall by the end of the book
40:12
he's not a sympathetic character at all like oh yeah he goes nuts has trapman showed up in this yet he's one of my
40:18
favorite characters oh Den he's got hair now it looks like he dipped it in
40:24
an acid bath but he's got hair the police station there was whoever was there at the sheriff's department hears
40:30
the explosion sees them and War has been brought to the streets the war has now been brought to the city or the town
40:35
teasel's like oh my now it's on you know like Donkey Kong right he brought the war here to his
40:41
[Music] town I love that shot there double land onion
40:49
ring do they have Dair Queen in
40:54
Canada what the hell is going on yeah watch that must been back in the
41:02
day when they were doing all those subsidies for Canadian films what I love here is the G I think the gas lines
41:09
underneath the street have are are catching fire so it's destroying this used carlot or whatever but still again
41:14
these cool fire explosions I don't know what they what they used in real life to
41:20
make this but it's it's a really effective explosions at night mm those good old night explosions
41:28
attention all civilians for your own safety please Evacuate the streets
41:36
immediately remain indoors until you receive further instructions I repeat get out of the way this is a police
41:42
emergency please Evacuate the streets immediately what town has a Citywide
41:48
beer system that maybe that was a thing we used to have back in the in the day
41:53
now you could argue two things here one it's a small town and that that's what I was thinking so that might not have been
41:59
used because this town has a lot of danger but more of an announcement like kind of fun hey don't forget 3 o'clock
42:06
we're GNA have our bake sale you know it's the fourth of July
42:13
parade oh look at Uncle Sam on those SS Washington hey guess what it's
42:20
raining I was that sounds irritating it's like hey rain coming it's like yes
42:26
see the I would love to be the just get on there and be the cop and just be like just
42:31
remind everyone obey the law I'm looking at you well I'm always there oh don't
42:37
you spit that gum out that sounds like God like an allsea God in the to will
42:42
teasel's getting his stuff ready he's getting his gun ready he's getting ready to go out and get Rambo and trout now walks in there you go we found Rambo's
42:50
body as a matter of fact it stole an army truck blew up a gas station the other side of town
42:58
the kid is resilient why don't you forget what you're thinking and clear out what you can get the [ __ ] out of here Troutman
43:04
you take your advice with you when I talked to you earlier this afternoon you knew he was still alive
43:10
didn't you I suspected sure sure that's why you stuck
43:15
around you trained him you taught him how to get out of places like that
43:21
cave but he's not going to get out of this place teasel you and all your men
43:26
couldn't handle him before now what makes you think you can handle him now because God knows what damage he's
43:31
prepared to do all right something else from the book teasel is getting shot and [ __ ]
43:40
up it's nuts you're like you're an old man even talk about him being an old man he's a World War II veteran no Korea
43:47
Korea Korea okay yeah so in the book he's like 41 or two and then ramble characters like 21 or 22 in the book
43:53
there was the Father's son Dynamic that was the D whereas in this movie it's more of just
43:59
authoritative type twps and a pod Dynamic yeah and there was a weird kind
44:06
of divorce angle tossed in there that I thought was a little unnecessary have you ever met anybody with the last name
44:11
teasel am I the only one who thinks that's a strange last name that he obviously like came up with or something
44:17
or am I wrong we are going to try and get him on nrq inspired by Ryan so maybe
44:22
uh we can ask him where did you come up with that name authors usually know where those character names come they
44:27
don't just pull out of their butt he he's never going to speak to Ryan again for having suggested himself over to us
44:33
I really want him on just because I minimum I want to do we'll just do one
44:38
segment with him but if I could get him to do the whole thing and ask him every dumb question I've ever had about
44:45
Rambo absolutely does he get power from the headband or is it just for
44:51
sweat that's aett question there you go did Rambo pull the knife on that guy
44:57
because he's against cigarette smoking did he eat all of that pig or just some
45:02
of it yeah ramble uh running around the streets here of course and I do want to
45:07
finish because we started the scene with Troutman and teasel we'll finish there you got it buddy yeah so uh but they
45:14
inter so there's conversation between teasel and Troutman of course but then we're concurrently Rambo is going
45:20
through the streets and causing damage and Chaos mhm I was bored on these main streets
45:27
yeah right is it even possible to hold and fire an M60 by yourself without a stand
45:34
it is I've seen okay it's hard you have to know what you're doing but yes it's possible oh no I'm thinking of the
45:41
minigun that freaking Jesse Ventura uses a predator that's completely impossible Jesse Ventura with that minigun he
45:47
wouldn't have been able to carry all that ammo that was the other thing like for How much brass that thing spit down
45:53
that's a you're going to die diesel yeah so the next line here you're going to die you're going to die Teel you're
46:00
going to die tonight die everybody
46:06
dies there's only one man in this room that's got half a chance that's not because I'm better than he is but it's
46:12
because he trusts me see I'm the closest thing to family that he has left and that may be all the edge I need Jesus
46:19
Christ where do you people come [Music]
46:25
from now this is my job Troutman this is my town and I'm not giving it up to you
46:30
or to Rambo or anybody else now you just stay the hell out of my
46:38
way all right perfect way end it there Denny he man this is the way he delivers these lines I just I I say it every
46:45
episode and I apologize to my listeners who hear it every episode but every scene that Denny he's in he just steals the
46:51
show yeah D he's great I like trout or trapman or whatever he's my favorite I love him the second one he was like
46:57
you're coming out of retirement Groo I need you one more time to kill some
47:03
Vietnamese no it's Russians never mind no no the third one was the third one was Russians the second one was
47:09
Vietnamese I guess it was I thought it was Russians in Vietnam the Russians were holding that's right with the
47:15
Vietnamese right and he's kidnapped in the third one right that's in the second one uh no he thir Ram's caught in the
47:23
second one and troutman's caught in the third one yeah so it's a rescue mission ohy I've never seen the third one oh well we
47:30
need to change that because I think we're going to definitely be coming back for First Blood Part Two yeah I'm gonna have guys on for that one I saw if you
47:37
guys want to come back for that one that'd be great I want to come for him for sure that's it that's the end of the
47:45
scene that a movie all right so guys thank you so much for coming on the show it's true pleasure and as was explained
47:51
at the beginning you guys have a show called The no redeeming qualities podcast it's part of the gamma gator
47:57
Productions which I am a part of with my other podcast called the worst the best so for those listeners I don't often
48:02
plug my show on the rocking ramble I don't know why but yeah if I should maybe more but this sounds like like
48:08
everybody listen to Ryan but if you if you don't know already I run another podcast called the worst of the best
48:14
which is part of your guys's uh Network which I'm really grateful to be a part of that Network so uh but again plug
48:21
your guys' uh show and what you guys do and just so you know the guys that listen to listen to us in Discord want to listen to you guys so you're doing a
48:27
good job uh promoting yourselves we're the we're no redeeming qualities uh you can find us at nrq
48:34
podcast.com or anywhere that podcasts are found we have a new episode drops usually every Wednesday morning right
48:41
now that the time that this drops so if you go to gamma Gator Productions on YouTube you can see our some of our
48:47
YouTube stuff we dropped as the episode this week normally that stuff we do for our patrons but uh for everybody also
48:54
every year at nrq we do counterprogramming for shark week because it's just been 30 years of shark
49:01
week is just too much so we always do a full week of podcasts dedicated to a new animal that needs its time in the
49:08
spotlight and this year it's gorilla week seven mini sodes all about gorillas
49:13
cuz once you've watched air jaws 2 for the 20th time you don't need to watch Shark Week anymore so yeah that's
49:19
gorilla week also we do scripted material you can see Bob and I at we make audio dramas where we actually like
49:25
play characters and it's not a podcast it's all fully performed and you can find those at nrq
49:31
podcast.com if you find it up at the top once again it is no redeeming qualities
49:36
podcast and Ryan was on recently for the NHL episode he swears a whole lot in
49:42
that one y'all so if you I think that's it all right guys
49:47
thank you so much well with that the uh this episode is over nothing is over nothing you don't just turn it off
